Description
Barrier Brewing Co. is the collaborative effort of brewers Evan Klein and Craig Frymark, located in Oceanside, NY. Brewing their first batches on a 1bbl system (2 kegs at a time!) in June 2010, the two expanded the business to a 5bbl brewhouse in June 2012 which operated for four short months before being severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy. After several months of rebuilding, Barrier reopened in late-February 2013. The brewery currently produces nearly 50 different beers throughout the year totaling 1500bbl annually, all of which is self-distributed throughout the NY metro area.

At a tasting, many thanks Ariel, the re-issue version, medium long lasting bubbley head, crystal clear rusty orange colour, strong aroma of pomello with orange blossom and a hint of pine, flavour of pomello some herbs and pine, a bit of alcohol breaking through. Nice DIPA.

Miles, Brooklyn tap ($6): Pours amber with a beige head. Aroma is caramel malt, slight amount of Belgian yeast, dark fruitiness. I found this to be way more amber ale with just a little touch of the Belgian ale aspect. It was fine and inoffensive, but far from interesting.

Tap at the Jeffrey. Pours jet black with faint cocoa nose. Tastes of burnt coffee, chocolate, rootbeer, touch herbal, and soil. Kinda harsh on palate. But tasty enough with enough carbonation to make it quite drinkable.

Cask at Mugs Alehouse, Brooklyn NY on 3rd July 2013. Hazy copper with lasting off white foam and initial lacing. Very hoppy aroma with some yeastiness. Intensely bitter in-mouth with spice and pepper, followed by a bittersweet finish with intense spiciness. Light, medium body. First Cask Ale I have sampled in the US.
