golden amber color. Fairly straight forward with lots of pale malts, a moderate amount of fruitiness, full bodied. Actually not extremely outstanding or impressive but very enjoyable and well made. Actually one of the better beers from these guys. Drinks like 6.5 or 7%, but at 8.5% it is very deceiving. Good.

Draught at Wachi. Has pickled cherry leaves as well as cherry blossoms in it. Clear, deep gold. Nice head Aroma of cherry leaf rice cakes (sakura mochi), just as they intended, with tangy citrus, biscuits. Flavor of wheat, nice citrus hops, sakura mochi. The cherry aspect is nice, but the rice cake aspect is a bit too much. Decent balance, though, and a clean finish with good hops. Quite nice for what is really a novelty beer.

23/03/2012 330ml bottle (thanks KyotoLefty!). Corpo medio, carbonazione abbondante. Deludente.

30 cl cone bottle vintage 2010 (9,5%), BBE 18.11.2015
Aroma has some hops with rather nice fruits, but then again there are some berries too. Feels like something between american DIPA and strong ale. Flavour is rather strong and slightly tart with grassy hops, some gooseberry bush and nettles. Also some sweetish malt and pear. Every sip is an adventure with completely different feelings. One weird barley wine from a weird bottle – but not in a bad way. Hard to say if I like this or not, but at least the strong grassy hops do not fit here completely.

33 cl bottle vintage 2010, bottled 14.02.2010
Aroma has cocoa, some espresso coffee and hints of vegetables. Flavour is rather ashy with very dry, dark and bitter chocolate. The malt is too burned here and it lowers the drinkability of this.

Bottle from takasjimaya Kyoto. Roasty malt aorma, coffee, wood. Flavor isna bot sweeter, some cnoclate, with cafe au lait, a touch of fruit. Ok, but simple. Less interesting than their porter, though easy drinking and decent enough.

Bottle. Startling citrus lemon aroma, chocolate, coffee, grassy; hard sour edge is strange and interesting. Black andnshiny with a low, bubbly and rocky head. Flavor is huge lemon, plus oregano or thyme--reminds me of Grandma’s baked chicken in lemon and oregano! Chocolate flavor is hidden by the lemon, very sour, with a harsh, bitter finish. Some burnt wood and roasted malt in the background, but I struggle to find it. The lemon is overpowering and doesn’t fit in. My wife says the lemon was much more subdued at first, but I was too busy comparing the aromas to try it! Interesting but quite unpleasant.

Bottle. Orange and daidai aromas, then up comes chocolate, not much roasting. Smells like a Belgian orange chocolate. more natural of the two, more obvious mix of flavors. Sweet orange flavor, wih chocolate, more coffee than before, cream, vanilla. some burn wood as well. Slightly too fruity and too much fruity, juicy sweetness in the finish, but smooth, and nice. This one also seemed to lose its malt character quickly, and become more and more sour. Got less interesting over time.

Draught at Wachi. Huge Kyoho grape aroma with light malt and some citrus hops. Nice enough but mostly the grapes. Light amber color. Flavors of caramel, nice earthy hops, grapes. Quite bitter hop finish. Interesting, though it doesn’t really work as the grapes are too purely sweet and don’t really mesh with the pale ale base.

Draught at Eni-Bru. Great aroma of Belgian spice, fruit, nice hops: grass and citrus. Orange-amber color. Hops are very much evident, though not overwhelming in the West Coast sense. Fruity, spicy, flavor like a Belgian amber ale, but with huge hops. A touch of honey, some cherry and grapes in there too. Also something like caramel apple pie. Interesting and refreshing, bitter. Very nice and original, more hoppy Belgian Amber than IPA. Great, complex Belgian character.
