In 1998, the brewery was acquired by Jos Tjoen, who modernised it so that it could expand. It soon became clear that the premises were too small for the planned extension and so, in 2001, he moved Brouwerij De Bie to a larger location in Loker but kept the name: Hellekapelle. And an entirely new brewery was born, one with an adjoining pub where people could enjoy a good chat with close friends over great beer. At the same time, they opened a beer boutique.
Because of the enormous success of regional craft beers, this location was soon far too small. So, in 2011, Brouwerij De Bie moved to a much larger farmstead in Wakken (Dentergem). What began as a craft brewery with 3 beers has today grown into a renowned brewery with 10 beers. But it hasn’t lost its artisanal qualities.

Quite treble brown colour. I perceived the sweet aroma from the moment I was pouring this in my glass. Very remarkable flavour: little bit sweet, little bit sour.

(Provisory rating). Very thick, loby head, irregular. Very hazy, orange-green beer. Whilst pouring, vague smell reminiscent of gingerrootbeer. Spicey aroma. Coriandre & orangepeel. Taste: Hoops. Infected. pediococcus or something (don't havy my micros ready). Orangey, citrussy flavour underneath, becomes piquant through the mouldy off-taste. Some sweetness still, strangely enough. Very carbonated, but yeast in suspension makes it more creamier, fuller than it probably is. Well yes, this happens (too often). Will rate this beer again, sometime.

Black. Toffee and liquorice aroma, with burnt cherries. Sweet, brown sugar and toffee palate, with vague nutty notes. Sticky sweet finish.

Dark red-brown, hazy. Very thick brown head, irregular. Very yeasty nose, dark malts, banana. Bitter taste as from rasted malts. sweet, very thick malt underbuild, near portwine character. Very thick, chewy mouthfeel. Aftertaste is estery & alcoholic. Vineous, chewy beer, but the roasted-maltbite is just a bit too harsh for me.

A nice, subtle little brown belgian. Nice lacing. Hints of honey and cloves. Roasted notes. Kind of like toast with honey on top. Cute, very.

Bottled. Orange coloured, cloudy with good lacing. Big cinnamon aroma. Sweet and hoeyish, yet acidic. Rounded and clean with a cinnamon finish that has traces of hop bitterness.

Bottled. Deep ruby, lively. Honey aroma. Sugary sweet with syrupy mouthfeel. Just too sweet for me.

Cloudy blond color; creamy head. Smooth, quite malty, but still a bit dry (Triple-like). Fully enjoyable, not complex.

Hazy blond hale, big head. Quite strong dry hop aroma, dry, a bit sour. Dry, sour taste, pretty aggressive. Similar palate, maybe too bitter.

Dark strong ale. Malty taste. I couldn't taste the honey in it, as Barbar tastes like honey, but i find it hard to taste this small undertones.

Deep golden coloured. Hazy. Vinuous, lively, spicy, sweet and well balanced. Really complex.
