Gravity cask at Cambridge Winter Ales Festival 2016, golden brown, clear and reasonably flat. Barley sugar and orange peel in the light aroma. The initial taste is resplendent: sweet with a hint of creme brûlée and banana, but it vanishes into an uncompromising bitterness far too soon. Bitter-as-hell finish. Intense and oh so British.

Cask at St Albans beer festival 2015, St Albans, Herts. An orange/amber coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Sweet, fruity, strawberry, malty, caramel aroma. Tastes similar, sweet, malty, fruity, caramel and quite boozy. I understand that this a recreation of an old recipe brewed for college students in the 1930’s. I thought it was delicious and would love to get hold of some more.

Pint in the Eagle, Cambridge. Golden, very slightly hazy with a creamy white head. Citrus aroma, taste is lemon with a very dry finish

GBBF Day 3. Cask. Clear dark red - brown beer, no head. Palate is light and semi dry, modest carbonation. Very mild dark malts, touch of dark chocolate. Mild dark fruits. Trace of spice. Light semi dry finish. Not bad.

Cask at gbbf 2015 day 4. Dark brown coloured pour with reddy hues and a steadfast loose tan head. Aroma is milk choc, smooth, light berry. Flavour is milky, roast, some lactose sweet, little chalk, berry fruits. Palate is medium light, chalky, moderate cask condition. Solid English stout.
