Description
Emile Vanhonsebrouck and his wife Louise De Poorter founded the Sint Jozef brewery in Ingelmunster. In 1922 the brothers Paul and Ernest Van Honsebrouck take over the brewery from their mother. In 1953 Luc Van Honsebrouck (son of Paul) becomes director. Luc realizes that the small Sint Jozef brewery isn't able to compete with the large pils breweries. He therefore decides to concentrate on the production of an old brown beer, naming it Bacchus, and he changes the name of the brewery to Vanhonsebrouck. The St-Louis Gueuze and Kriek were officially launched in 1958. In 2009 Xavier Vanhonsebrouck succeeds his father Luc. In 2016 the doors of the old brewery in Ingelmunster are permanently closed. The new site in Emelgem is now home to a brand new, fully integrated brewery, with the equipment to produce all of the Vanhonsebrouck beers. In the meantime Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck becomes the new official name.

.75L bottle. Just kind of your average fruity spicy belgian ale - nothing to get excited about here.

pours a nice dark red. The cherry predominates but a very deep taste on this one. Really much better than I thought it would be, and the alcohol is well disguised.

Backlog September 2011. Amber body under a moderate sized off-white head. Lovely aroma of malt, caramel, spices and brown sugar. Tasate is sweet malt, dry fruit, dark fruit, slightly spicy and moderate bitterness. Fine body with a smooth aftertaste. Nice and tasty with well hidden alcohol.

On tap at FUZE. Pours clear mahagony with a light pink head. Tons of maraschino cherry on the nose. Flavour has a fuck ton of maraschino cherries, like cough syrup. This would have a nice cherry expression if it weren't for the ridiculous amount of sugar. Christ.

Draft. Crimson reddish beer with a cream head. Cherry and light tart aroma. Cherry and light sour flavor with light malt. Medium bodied. Cherry and light sourness linger with light malt and very light acetic notes.

Can, but not the nitro version. No visible date. Dark brown, some chunks, beige head. Choc malt aroma with brioche, light spices. Sweet and convincingly (why is it more impressive that there's no chocolate?) chocolaty - like a ganache - with enough bitterness (and/or booze) that it's surprisingly not cloying. Not bad at all.

Can. Brown, the beige head is soon at the rim. Aroma of apples, some malt vinegar, bread. Has a bit of that nitro creaminess and that feels weird. Gently sour with kvas-like bread, vinegar touches, some autumnal fruit. Slight herbal notes at the end. Refreshing.
