Description
Emile Vanhonsebrouck and his wife Louise De Poorter founded the Sint Jozef brewery in Ingelmunster. In 1922 the brothers Paul and Ernest Van Honsebrouck take over the brewery from their mother. In 1953 Luc Van Honsebrouck (son of Paul) becomes director. Luc realizes that the small Sint Jozef brewery isn't able to compete with the large pils breweries. He therefore decides to concentrate on the production of an old brown beer, naming it Bacchus, and he changes the name of the brewery to Vanhonsebrouck. The St-Louis Gueuze and Kriek were officially launched in 1958. In 2009 Xavier Vanhonsebrouck succeeds his father Luc. In 2016 the doors of the old brewery in Ingelmunster are permanently closed. The new site in Emelgem is now home to a brand new, fully integrated brewery, with the equipment to produce all of the Vanhonsebrouck beers. In the meantime Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck becomes the new official name.

Disappointing. Dark gold with a medium sized fluffy head. Yeasty, phenolic, musty and medicinal. Long finish. Medium body.

Aromas are malt, dry grain, candy sugar, and a little mineral. Flavors are similar to nose, mildly sweet. Kind of a toned down version of a better Belgian strong blonde. Definitely drinkable but nothing special.

75cl bottle (nᵒ 14115/20000, BBF: 08/2025) from Cora in Brussels as my beer #3800 from Belgium.
F: big, egg-white, good retention.
C: gold, hazy.
A: banana, vanilla, cognac, woody, pineapple, spicy, caramel touch.
T: full malty base, woody, banana, pineapple, spicy, nice tannins, some like honey sweetness from base tripel, cognac of course, medium carbonation, I was not expecting great beer here so enjoyable for me.

A good friend with our own pizzas at home, after a day at Bern. A typical Belgian product, this one is really sweet with a generous note of vanilla at the final, malty, sugar, smooth at the palate, discreet note of hop, at the final, boozy. 22.11.20, drinking it at home, Epalinges.

Blik thuis geprobeerd met NickvdH. Het is een helder paars kleurig bier met een dun schuim. Het heeft een fris zuur aroma van frambozen. De smaak is fruitig, wrang en bitter.
