Description
Emile Vanhonsebrouck and his wife Louise De Poorter founded the Sint Jozef brewery in Ingelmunster. In 1922 the brothers Paul and Ernest Van Honsebrouck take over the brewery from their mother. In 1953 Luc Van Honsebrouck (son of Paul) becomes director. Luc realizes that the small Sint Jozef brewery isn't able to compete with the large pils breweries. He therefore decides to concentrate on the production of an old brown beer, naming it Bacchus, and he changes the name of the brewery to Vanhonsebrouck. The St-Louis Gueuze and Kriek were officially launched in 1958. In 2009 Xavier Vanhonsebrouck succeeds his father Luc. In 2016 the doors of the old brewery in Ingelmunster are permanently closed. The new site in Emelgem is now home to a brand new, fully integrated brewery, with the equipment to produce all of the Vanhonsebrouck beers. In the meantime Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck becomes the new official name.

Bottle shared with Muzzlehatch and tiggmtl on 11/6/05. Pours an amber-orange color, clear and bubbly, with a fizzly white head, no lacing either. Aroma of cheap peach candy, juicy and full of sugar. No lambic. Flavor is just all peach candy, perhaps the slightest hint of a dry, earthy malt and maybe a hint of fuzzy peach skin. No lambic. Body is medium-full of peachy sugars. Texture is lightly syrupy. Carbonation is unnatural. So the premium line denotes what now? It sure dosen’t seem to denote a higher perecentage of lambic in the beer, because this was far less lambic-like than the St Louis non-premium framboise. And you’ve got to work at being less lambic-like than the St. Louis framboise. . .

Bottle from Auchan, Calais. Golden beer, no head. Nice fruity hoppy nose. Some syrupy sweetness is evident. Extremely carbonated and actually quite hard to swallow due to this. Golden syrup flavours in mouth and then some hop on the end which is both herby and sweet tangerine. Just a tad too strong for me.

Schmecken tuts schon irgendwie. Test vom 14.11.2005, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,10,8,8,14,8 - 8,70

Test vom 14.11.2005, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,9,8,13,10,10 - 10,10

Bottle, best before 1/2006, had at Sunset Grille on 10/20/2005. Well I was honestly excited to see a new bottled lambic in my area, but it turns out the hoped for lambic is really just another "lambic". So disapointing, makes me not even want to write a review. Just another unspontaneous fruit beer. How much lambic is actually in this? 5%?? Maybe? Wow. Pours a muddy-caramel-beige color, huge pinkish-yellow head is lasting. Smells of dry, root-like vegetables in the background with some sharp, almost acidic notes. But it’s dominated by sweet, thick, cloying raspberries. Well they don’t cloy in the aroma, but once you get in to the flavor, ack. Heavy raspberry fruit flavor, with more or less zero lambic quality. Some dirty yeastiness is about all I got. But at least it wasnt horribly offensive like Chapeau or Cherish, but it’s just so sad that these pretend to be lambics. Thick, sweet raspberries cloy by the end of the bottle, syrupy, fairly substantial texture. Way too sweet. Oh well, another dream shattered (not really).
