Description
Emile Vanhonsebrouck and his wife Louise De Poorter founded the Sint Jozef brewery in Ingelmunster. In 1922 the brothers Paul and Ernest Van Honsebrouck take over the brewery from their mother. In 1953 Luc Van Honsebrouck (son of Paul) becomes director. Luc realizes that the small Sint Jozef brewery isn't able to compete with the large pils breweries. He therefore decides to concentrate on the production of an old brown beer, naming it Bacchus, and he changes the name of the brewery to Vanhonsebrouck. The St-Louis Gueuze and Kriek were officially launched in 1958. In 2009 Xavier Vanhonsebrouck succeeds his father Luc. In 2016 the doors of the old brewery in Ingelmunster are permanently closed. The new site in Emelgem is now home to a brand new, fully integrated brewery, with the equipment to produce all of the Vanhonsebrouck beers. In the meantime Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck becomes the new official name.

Bottle. Beautiful pink head with good duration. Color is cherry red. Aroma is sweet cherry. Taste is fresh and cherry. A bit sour as well - but in a good sense.

Beer tasting sampler at Binny’s, Orland Park. A little trifecta at work here: tasing the Peche, Kriek, and now this. Not much in the tartness area, considering the style. Like the other two lambics I rated, this comes across as somewhat creamy more than anything else. Certainly has a lot of juice to it, but not much in the way of beer to match.

Beer tasting sampler at Binny’s, Orland Park. Almost a peaches & cream quality to it. Very little peach or lambic tartness. Comes across like a fizzy peach schnapps.

Beer tasting sampler at Binny’s, Orland Park. Looks like a cherry soda. Very fizzy and foamy. This has a more noticable fruit tartness than the Peche, but again, not much sourness considering the style.

Cherry red with white pinky head. Incredibly sweet. This is a kriek for beginners. Very easy drinkable and not very complex. Cherries throughout! Doesnt quite cut it for me!

Bottle: Poured a clear light copper color beer with a small fuzzy head with minimal retention. Aroma of peach syrup is totally dominant. The peach syrup, which I am not too fond of to begin with, and some very subtle sourness also dominate taste. I would have Lindemans pêche any days over this, which I guess says a lot about my fondness for peach based beer.

Clear dark brown ale with a thin moka head. Aroma of brown sugar, coriander, orange peels, alcohol, and wood. In mouth, sweet candy sugar, spices like orange peels, cherries, aniseed, and leathery notes in finish. Medium to rich body. Alcohol warmth soothing the palate. Rated at room temperature, in 750 ml.

Golden lambic with a thin white head. Cherry and lemon aroma, a bit lactic , with some interesting barnyard effect. Good lactic and acetic (vinegar) notes in mouth, pleasant, with a touch of ground cherries, some mineral notes. Very nice, but not on Cantillon’s par. Bought in Jan. 2006, Orlando.
