Description
Emile Vanhonsebrouck and his wife Louise De Poorter founded the Sint Jozef brewery in Ingelmunster. In 1922 the brothers Paul and Ernest Van Honsebrouck take over the brewery from their mother. In 1953 Luc Van Honsebrouck (son of Paul) becomes director. Luc realizes that the small Sint Jozef brewery isn't able to compete with the large pils breweries. He therefore decides to concentrate on the production of an old brown beer, naming it Bacchus, and he changes the name of the brewery to Vanhonsebrouck. The St-Louis Gueuze and Kriek were officially launched in 1958. In 2009 Xavier Vanhonsebrouck succeeds his father Luc. In 2016 the doors of the old brewery in Ingelmunster are permanently closed. The new site in Emelgem is now home to a brand new, fully integrated brewery, with the equipment to produce all of the Vanhonsebrouck beers. In the meantime Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck becomes the new official name.

Sensation of chemical ingredients, sugar, a bit sour, sweet, concentrated of cherry juice, malty, dry at the palate, classical hop, not my favourite, ok, 03.01.2021, drinking it at Bonfol and buying it at the place de l'Aligre, Paris.

Lemon, pear, coriander nose. Shimmering golden, medium head, nice lace. Pear, coriander, oats, lemon. Medium body, soft carbonation. Wow! Surprisingly well rounded wit. This brewery is very underrated.

Bottle from Delhaize.
A: hazy red, small, foamy, pinkish head.
A: sweetened raspberry jam & coulis, powdered sugar, white bread, red candy.
T: sweet raspberry candy, coulis, powdered sugar, some grenadine, vague lemony sourishness.
F: sweet raspberry candy, slightly bitter syrup, touch of fruit liqueur or jenever alcohol.
P: medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation.
It is what it is. At least it's not as boozy as Kasteel Rouge (but that's only because the syrup covers it all).

Bottle from Hopduvel.
A: clear, somewhat hazy red, stable, foamy, pink head.
A: iron, grenadine, powdered sugar, sweetened forest fruit jam, cherry candies.
T: sweet cherry candy & grenadine, bitetr iron, sourish lemon juice.
F: sweet candy, very vague white bread, bit metallic.
P: light to medium body, syrupy texture, soft carbonation.
For a Rouge, there are maybe some redeeming qualities here, and at least there's the intention of pushing an NA alternative.
