Scåssenes (previously Ecaussinnes)
Commercial Brewery in Ecaussinnes, Hainaut, Belgium 🇧🇪
Established in 1999
In 2020 after years of setbacks (the existing installations of the brewery turned out to be too old or too large; while co-investor Michel Simon left the firm) a new manager was appointed to put things in order. Brewmaster Jerôme, a medical biologist, keeps an eye on the fully automated brewing process.

Bottled (BB 05/2009)
Hazy golden color, big white head. Aroma of fruits, banana and yeast - almost like hefeweizen - plus some alcohol, metal and cardboard. Also flavor starts with sweetish bananas then turning alcoholic bitter. Dry bitter aftertaste and warming alcohol. This beer kicks with all its 8 %. Like a wheat beer on drugs.

Draught Very dark hazy brown; fine but stable yellow-brownish head. Very slightly sweet nose, a lot of different malts - and a somewhat seriously spicey finish. Extremely sweet, spiced taste: speculoos with cinnamon, cardemom, allspice, the whole shebang. In the back, there’s a bitterish metallic touch, quite briefly. Very well-bodied, long sweet aftertaste, all the spices still there (no new taste). They have something with speculoos (hard gingerbread), and its herbs. Quite good - for a few sips, at least.

Hazy red pinkish color, medium off-white head. Aroma of raspbery, marzipan. Sweet taste, some cookie, marzipan, very fruity (though artificial). Not that bad.
