Description
When we started making brilliant, innovative beer back in 1983, the craft beer thing was just a glint in Harvie’s eye. Now, more than 35 years later, we are proud to be the forefathers of this movement to better beer. Harviestoun is a proud, family-run business, our Chairmen Sandy Orr and Donald MacDonald champion a dedication to the craft that produces award-winning, natural brews made using the finest ingredients and purest Scottish water.

Founded in 1983 by Ken Brooker, the Scottish brewery has grown steadily to become renowned for their award winning beers. Head brewer, Stuart Cail, joined Harviestoun in 1995. Over the years the brewery has found new and innovative ways to create truly unique beers from their whisky cask aged Old Engine Oil to Bitter and Twisted, aged in Gin and Pinot Noir barrels.

Bottle 08122, Feb. 2017. Pours black, tiny bit of light head. Smells very whisky-like, coffee. Mouthfeel is rather light, compared to more modern stuff, but not disturbing. Taste is nicely subtly whisky first, plenty of roast, coffee. All nicely subtle.

Bottle. Nose is whisky, faint tar, chocolate, coffee, honey, almond. Taste is soft whiskey, leading to chocolate, sweet malt, hint of treacle and hazelnut. It's enjoyable.

Bottle at a tasting. Surprisingly thin body, med-thin. Low carbonation. Loads of coffee character, deep dark maltiness. To be honest I do not really get any whisky or barrels - seems to be a very subtle influence here at most. Hops in the background. Overall a rather clean roasty piece for me. ABV hidden very well, easy drinking. Quite good.

Can from Beers of Europe. Appearance - golden with a very special off white head. Nose - gentle lemon and pine. Taste - soft, slight soapy with still a little citrus. Palate - light bodied, gentle middle and finish. Overall - ok.

Bottle at home picked up from Beer52. A jet black coloured pour with a tidy light tan head. Aroma is earthy meaty roast, liquorice, salty , burnt cake. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, salty roast, savory, rich cakey malts, molases, liquprice, Palate is thick , sugary, medium sweet, fine carbonation. Big meaty one.
