750 ml bottle purchased at Cigarette City, Seabrook for a price of $9.99. Amber type color thin lasting head. Aroma is light earthy spice, mild herbs and a different yeast Syrian I don’t remotely recognize.

The flavor has a balance of sweet malts and a herbal earthy character that leads to a dry finish. This could be a slightly better if fresh. Of course without any type of best before or bottle date it’s hard to know if this could be better or not. It’s French so likely this is as good as it gets.

750 ml bottle, 2013 vintage sampled in 2015. More than less clear, golden body with a fine, foamy, long lasting white head. Aroma is malty with cain sugar and warming alcohol. Flavor is sweet malt, sugar, hint of caramel and honey and almost boozy but not unpleasant alcohol, quite hot. Fine body and long sweet aftertaste with sweet malt and honey by the end. Rather close to a triple this one. Not very complex really, but drinking more than just a small glass make it very pleasant. It was a good match to my chilly crab pancakes.

0,75 l bottle, best before 27/3/2015. Crystal clear, pale golden yellow with a big, foamy, stable, white head. Nice citrusy aroma with hints of fermented white grapes. Refreshing taste of lemon, fermented white grapes and yeast with hints of vanilla and honey in the background. I even get some bananas after the beer warmed up. Slightly alcoholic and warming aftertaste with a light bitterness as in a Belgian tripel. Medium body with a mouthfeel that begins almost fizzy and ends creamy. Average carbonation. Overall a very refreshing and well balanced beer. How good must that be in the summer!

One of the most famous and classic bières de garde, with creamy, coarse, off-white head and pure golden colour, clear at first but hazy with deposit as expected, calm fizz. Aroma has something sweaty which at first disturbed me a bit, luckily it fades away after a while to reveal impressions of unripe peach, sour cream, apple juice, juniper berries, white bread, baker’s yeast, straw, gin, cooked potato and iron. Sweetish, rather delicate onset, apple, peach and pineapple, hint of iron but not really disturbing, soft mouthfeel, honeyish malt sweetness, smooth, with a finish of grassy hop bitterishness and wodka-like, warming alcohol, not very well hidden but not really disturbing either. In all, a pleasant beer and a fine introduction to the style.
