This has a cloudy golden body and a generous, frothy head. It smells like pears, honey and yeast. The flavor is a subtle mixture of apples, pears, bread and spices that reminds me of British pastries. A dry finish leaves a pleasant sweetness on the tongue. This is good stuff, yet it seems pretentious in some way, much like the country from which it comes.

Golden colour. Big head. Pilsener-aroma. Flavour like......well, if is wasn''t for the fancy corked bottle it would be hard to tell this from the avarage Malt liquor! This is my fourth Biere de Garde and I''m yet to be impressed. Guess it''s just not my style.

Cloudy brown-amber colour, too much carbonation. Malt nose, nuts. Good malt taste, too much alcohol, liquorice; warming. Ordinary palate. Doesn't age well, and gets some Madeira character.

Heavily overrated beer. Yellow pilsener-like color as the picture shows. Nice head. Smell is not very pleasant. Bit pilsener like, a lot of hops. The taste is able to hide the ABV, which is a good thing. Bit sweet, fruity/flowery. Dry palate. I really can't see why this beer should be worth over 4 or even over 3.5

Very yeasty in appearance, nose and palate. Light brown colour, dark malts and nuttiness hide underneath the yeast on the palate. Finishes long and dry.

This beer was once a favourite of mine - a 4.7 classic. But I’ve had it a couple of times in the past few years and it is showing none of that character. What you get today is a blond ale, with some sticky malts, light phenols, not much hop character. The sweet malts blend with a little bit of alcoholic strength on the palate. There’s no nuance, none of that glorious yeast character I used to associate with this beer in the 1990s. I’d like to try it closer to its home, but for now, I have to downgrade it because it has been a shadow of former glory for many years now.

This seems to be a well respected beer, but I didn't like its herbal, almost cough-drop like taste.
