In the period after 1850, the De Meester-Boelens brewery was founded at the current address in the Kerkstraat. in 1897 the name changed to Boelens-De Meester. Brewing stopped during World WarI, after the war the family continued the business as a bottling and beer enterprise. In 1978 Kris Boelens took over the beer business from his father. He reintroduced beer brewing in Belsele in 1993. In 2016 his son Yannick Boelens joined the brewery.

[Thank you for sharing!][330 ml. bottle sampled @ O.B.E.R. Kerstbierfestival 2016] Dark brown, tanned head. Nose is overly big on brown sugar, dough, bread, fruit. Taste is extremely boozy, weirdly alcoholic, raw booze, sugar, spoiled fruit, sugar & varnish. Body is varnish, booze.

Bottle sampled at Essen Christmas Beer Festival ’16. Hazy red with a ring light pink head. Aroma of chemical artificial cherry, vinegar, mon cherri, just wrong.. Flavour is heavy sweet with a little sourness. Light medium bodied with soft carbonation. Crap.

Fruity nose. Clear dark red colour, small fizzy pink head, recedes quickly, minimal lacing. Aroma candy sugar, cherries, bit wood. Taste light heavy sweet, light sourish touch, syrupy, cherries, bit woody. Light body, sticky texture, average carbonation, quite artificial.

Bottle @ home. Clear golden orange color, average sized off-white head that diminishes fairly quickly. Smell and taste malts, some herbs or spices, spicy herbal sweetness and a bit floral. Average to decent body and carbonation. Ok beer.

33cl bottle on 27th Nov 2016 in the tasting room of the Bier Paleis, Brugge. Slight haze to the old gold body, a fast fading white head came and went. Barley sugar sweet with a citrus twist, dry finish: not overly impressed.

Little hazy deep blond beer, small creamy off-white head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: fruity, quite some grapefruit, citrus, bit sweet, malty, some almonds. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty hoppy start, some grapefruit, malty, some citrus, little sourish, soft bitterness. Aftertaste: bitter, grapefruit, bit yeasty, some sweet malts, soft bitterness. Not bad, actually! Pretty hoppy, for a Boelens beer! Judging from the previous ratings, I clearly had another batch. ;-)

Goudgeel met een witte schuimkraag. Het bier ruikt zuur en heeft een friszure smaak. De nasmaak is vooral zuur.

Bottle. Pours hazy light amber with stable off-white head. Clear aroma of apples, malt and caramel, with notes of hops. Bitter, hoppy flavour with sweet notes of apples and caramel and touches of malt and yeast. Estery and bitter aftertaste. Warming alcohol presence. A nice one.

3/XI/16 - 33cl bottle from a trade @ home - BB: 16/XI/16 (2016-1269) Thanks to Alengrin for the trade!
GUSHER ALERT!
Clear dark blond to orange beer, huge fizzy aery crackling off-white head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: sourish, brett notes, lemony, thinking about an infection here... Pretty funky, bit grassy, reminds of Orval, actually. MF: very lively carbon, too much. Taste: definitely getting some brett now, wild yeast, sourish, pretty bitter, grapefruit touch, grassy, some fruity notes. Aftertaste: yeasty, bitter, some banana, bit medicinal, quite alcoholic, wild yeast, grassy, bit dirty, wonder if the infection is intentional or not. It sort of works, but not completely...

Pours hazy orange with a foamy white head. The aroma contains spices, herbs, apple and some Speculoos. It tastes light sweet with the Speculoos apparent at first, leading into a medium bitter spicy and apple-like finish. The bitterness is unpleasant and the aftertaste chemical, though. Fizzy carbonation and medium body. Strange take on a fruit beer and not too well balanced.
