Description
For years we brewed beers in our basement when we read an article in October 2010 about the Brouwland beer competition. We decided to risk our chances and sent our version of a Trappist beer, a dark beer, full malt, of 10%.In March 2011 we were informed that we were selected for the final. Beginning in April 2011 was ultimately the final. The seven finalist beers were tasted by beer connoisseurs, Zythologists Rijckers Anne and Yannick De Cocteau and some Belgian brew masters like Paul Arnott (Dubuisson), and Jean-Marie De Rock (Orval). The first beers were tasted and judged one for one, much was noted. Mutually there was not much talk together ,until they started our beer (the final seven beers were tasted in order of alcohol). All jurors began to talk to each other and two of them even gave us a thumbs up. Then, we knew it was good. After fifteen minutes of deliberations they announced the winner … Vliegend Paard Brouwers from Oedelem with their Préaris Quadrupel.

Bottled@HBF2015. Slightly hazy orangeish golden colour with a mediumside fluffy white head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is sweet malts, mild floral and earthy notes along with some fruitiness as well. Flavour is fruity, sweet malts, some mild yeast as well as some parfumed floral notes. Wellbalanced and quite fresh with a nice yeasty spiciness to it as well.

Poured from a 330ml bottle, vintage 2014, from Vinmonopolet Aker Brygge. Frothy beige head to a clear amber-red body. Rings of lace down the glass. Smell of brown malts and herbal hops. Malt driven taste of caramel malts and coffee joined by dark spices and dark fruits towards the finish. Next to full bodied. Enjoying (hotel room Oslo 15.04.2015).

Bottle shared with JMD in board Fridtjofen. Nutty brown. Pale brown head. Aroma and taste of malt, nuts and dry berries. Bitter berries and malt in aftertaste. Quite dry and carbonated, thereby also easily drinkable.

Zwaar bier, granig, zwaar zoet, redelijk bitter, stevige alcohol, zoetig, vanille en bourbon --- Beer merged from original tick of Préaris Grand Cru 2015 BA Bourbon (Makers Mark) on 18 May 2018 at 14:38 - Score: 8

Keg. Pours very dark brown, with a small foamy covering. Aroma- vanilla, milk chocolate, cocoa, bourbon, hint of dark fruit. Taste- plenty of vanilla sweetness, milk chocolate, nutty, dark fruit undertones, oily and slick in the mouth, sticky sweet finish. Excellent. Bottle (2014 version)- no head at all, pours dark brown. Same vanilla bourbon aroma. Chocolatey nutty vanilla taste, flat as a pancake.
