Description
For years we brewed beers in our basement when we read an article in October 2010 about the Brouwland beer competition. We decided to risk our chances and sent our version of a Trappist beer, a dark beer, full malt, of 10%.In March 2011 we were informed that we were selected for the final. Beginning in April 2011 was ultimately the final. The seven finalist beers were tasted by beer connoisseurs, Zythologists Rijckers Anne and Yannick De Cocteau and some Belgian brew masters like Paul Arnott (Dubuisson), and Jean-Marie De Rock (Orval). The first beers were tasted and judged one for one, much was noted. Mutually there was not much talk together ,until they started our beer (the final seven beers were tasted in order of alcohol). All jurors began to talk to each other and two of them even gave us a thumbs up. Then, we knew it was good. After fifteen minutes of deliberations they announced the winner … Vliegend Paard Brouwers from Oedelem with their Préaris Quadrupel.

18 January 2020. Cheers to my mother's birthday! Bottle from Carrefour (I presume). Pours hazy ochre with a lasting, thin, off-white head. Aroma of overripe apple, apricot, orange, wet kitchen herbs, moist dough, wheat. Taste is a sweet estery profile of overripe banana, apple & apricot, balanced by bitter pepper & kitchen herbs, sourish wheat too, kept together by bready & doughy malt. Dry, grassy hoppy finish, before sweet yeast (almost wort) & ripe fruit kick in again. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Nice enough little Ale, nudging more towards typical Belgian 'blonde' than a real Saison though.

Huge, mango to cream-coloured head, dense and stable, irregularly bubbled over jet-black beer. Roasted, bit nutty, burnt, liquorice. The wine arrives late, with a bit of warming up, and gives a bit more fruity impression. Dry, woody flavour, liquorice & chocolate; roasted finish. Fruit flavours - plums, cherries on alcohol. Warming up heightens the chocolate (sauce) flavour. Well-bodied and viscous. Alcoholwarming that keeps going on for long. Too little influence from the wine. Tip: try to taste The Bruery Yount.

Bottle/Fest. A- Malty, caramel. A- Brown color, hazy liquid, off white head. T- Malty, fruity, caramel, raisins, brown sugar. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, malty finish. O- Good example for a quad, but honestly something I would get bored with pretty quick. Nothing wrong with it, just didn't do it for me as some other quads have lately.
