Description
For years we brewed beers in our basement when we read an article in October 2010 about the Brouwland beer competition. We decided to risk our chances and sent our version of a Trappist beer, a dark beer, full malt, of 10%.In March 2011 we were informed that we were selected for the final. Beginning in April 2011 was ultimately the final. The seven finalist beers were tasted by beer connoisseurs, Zythologists Rijckers Anne and Yannick De Cocteau and some Belgian brew masters like Paul Arnott (Dubuisson), and Jean-Marie De Rock (Orval). The first beers were tasted and judged one for one, much was noted. Mutually there was not much talk together ,until they started our beer (the final seven beers were tasted in order of alcohol). All jurors began to talk to each other and two of them even gave us a thumbs up. Then, we knew it was good. After fifteen minutes of deliberations they announced the winner … Vliegend Paard Brouwers from Oedelem with their Préaris Quadrupel.

26/X/17 - 33cl bottle @ Meet the Brewer: Préaris by Gentse Biervereniging in Café Congé (Gent) - BB: 4/IX/18 (2017-1826)

Pretty cloudy blond to beige beer, small creamy yellowish head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very fruity, lots of citrus, sweet malts, bit floral, elder flower lemonade. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very fruity start, lots of caramel, malty, pretty bitter, fruity, peach flavoured candy. Aftertaste: bitter, citrus, some grapefruit, little sweet, malty, very nice one! Finally putting enough hops in the ipa-beers! ;-)

Bottle from The Gull, North Vancouver; synthetic cork; vintage 2014, 3 years old
Brown color. Some mellow aroma, caramel, spices (anise). Good body strength; it has enough malt depth and some caramel flavor, but the mild spices are not very good, and they seem to clash with the whiskey, that is also adding a bit too much booze.
Overpriced.

Pours bit unclear blonde. Decent white head. Smell is full, hoppy. Almost a vanilla like touch to it. Taste is shqrp, bitter, very hop forward , almost like a neipa. This is even more NEIPA than their me so juicy' nice malty back. Intense taste. Perhaps a bit high in carbo, otherwise a damn, damn fine hoppy beer. Imprsssive to see this coming from a Belgian brewer . I take a bow, sir ! Earlier Rating: 4/29/2016 Total Score: 3.6Sampled at Zythos 2016. Thnx for sharing, everyone ! Pours unclear blonde, small white heas. Smell is spiced, malty. Taste is bit bitter, some sweetness. Mild spiced. Nice !

375ml bottle at Brian's office. Pours a dirty brown with a weak tan head. Aroma is not pleasant, very veggie with quad and barrel notes on the back. Similar taste. Can't even swallow it literally. Terrible.

Light brown, dull, no head. There's a light fruity, figgy, date-like character on the nose, with a fair bit of vanilla as well. On the palate, strong, sweet, sticky, some figgy notes. It's okay, but not all that complex. The malts are a bit dull. The barrel isn't bad, but it's just a little vanilla and a touch of wood. Overall, I feel the base beer holds this back...and the barrel doesn't add much.
