Description
Dany De Smet, a brewery engineer, and his wife Dany De Smet, a brewery engineer, started brewing beer "in the kitchen" in very small quantities (about 50 liters per brew). In 1999 the couple decided to start a beerfirm so in 2000 Slaapmutske was founded. In order to meet the ever-increasing demand, we decide to work together with the Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi to brew the beer there under license.

75cl. bottle: Pours dark brown with a fine red hew & creamy lasting head & lacings. Deep malty, yeasty, caramel, sweet, fruity - very inviting aroma. Slight roasted notes - various fruits - dark ones as well as orange. Medium bodied & soft mouthfeel. Not superior - but very drinkable.

Little yellowish head; very dark chestnut beer. Sourish nose, smelling infected, rotting pears, lactic acid. Human sweat, sourish, and a very heavy sweet-bitterish underbuild, spice-laden. And infected. Agressive MF & thinned. Ought not to have been sold. An infected Proefbrouw!!!

75 cL bottle. Pours murky deep brown with a little lacing off-white head. Mild malty and slight spiced aroma. Flavour is mildly sweetend at first before a mild caramel malt flavour appears before it descents into a mild spice and slight yeasty flavour. I initially sensed some honey like sweetness and herbalness, but that disappears quite quickly again. Finish is mild spiced with a lingering classic belgian mild note of yeast and some malt.

750 ml. bottle. As Kerstmutske Christmas Nightcap. Rich spicy aroma. Very roasted malt with sugar and spice. Hazy mahogany tones with a beige head that laces a bit. Thin to medium body with fizzy carbonation. The flavor starts fruity (kiwi?), malty, moves to darker fruit like plum. It’s not at all sticky, and the initial sweetness tends to be replaced by a fairly dry situation with notes of berry and wood. Might be a lot of floral hop holding down the sweetness. The finish is not totally dry as mildly sweet fruit persists. It’s good ale.
