Description
Real cider and perry from the county of Herefordshire in England.

Oliver's make a selection of fine Herefordshire ciders and perries with an emphasis on "balance" and "character" coupled with "drinkability".

Based around the spontaneous ferment of selected varieties of cider apple and perry pear from fruit grown in Herefordshire and the surrounding 3 Counties orchards.

Nominally referred to as "minimal intervention", we strive to "take what the fruit gives", respecting the great heritage and traditions of the past but with an eye to innovating for the future. What that really means is we mill and press great fruit, expose the juice to marauding and hungry wild yeasts and then for our part blend and bottle the resulting ferments.

Sample with Grumbo via Ed. Aroma is floral, lavender, pollen (not unlike a mead), pear and herbal teabag. Sugary sweet and minimal carbonation. The dryness made the top of my tongue numb and do not think i have had a beer/cider/perry with such a dry finish. It was a bit of a challenge to drink, but tasted so good, it was worth it.

Sample with Grumbo via Ed. Aroma is herbal, woody, apple, twiggy, leaves, fresh cut raw potato and fresh vegetable. Very good body. Smooth drying finish, that was also sweet. Very good.

Can from Honest Brew and my first from Oliver's. Took me a while to find this entry as the cider has no actual name. Pours a very cloudy amber with a sprinkle of foam on top. Aroma is delightful with a fruity ripe apple, apple skins, light caramlisation and some orchard funk. Its very dry on the palate with fruity but slightly dank stewed apple, zesty notes, wood, some alcohol warmth and light spice. Excellent.

Wow, nice. Funky. Little bit of sourness. Feels quite dangerous.

Bottle split at the CBJ tasting, thanks to Fergus, 27/11/24. Hazed orange with a decent off white cap as it goes for a cider, that fades in time. Nose is funky apple, caramel, vinous strains, hay bale. Taste comprises bitter sweet apples, tannins, orchard wood, funk, faint acidic kiss. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close. Solid Cider.

5oz pour at Stillwell Freehouse. Pours murky blonde with white head. Aroma has apple skins and barnyard funk. Flavour has dry apple skins and a good dose of barrel funk. Too many sugars, but they're in the background and it's overall decent.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from London Cheesemongers. Pours faintly hazed gold with a fizzy, white topping. Medium sweet flavour, super juicy, semi-ripe pear, apple, very mild acidity. Light bodied with spritzy carbonation. Clean finish, wry mild minerality, more bright and juicy pear. Wildly drinkable.
