Brouwerij Serafijn

Client Brewer in Heist-op-den-Berg, Antwerp, Belgium 🇧🇪
Associated Venue: Huisbrouwerij Achilles - Out of business

Established in 1999

Description
The microbrewery is founded by Achilles Van de Moer on the passion for special beers. After 7 years of trials with different beers, the decision to start a microbrewery in Itegem was made in 1999. The brand name of beers is “Serafijn”. All beers are high fermentation brews, with second fermentation in the bottle. Most of the beers are contract brewed, but some of them are also brewed at their own location.

In 2015 Achilles became part of Caupona bvba (of the Prik & Tik stores in Heist-op-den-Berg and Herselt). The brewery is now called ''Brouwerij Serafijn.'' That is the new company in Heist that houses the Serafijn beers. The former microbrewery in Itegem has been dismantled.

The beer is now brewed at the Pirlot brewery in Zandhoven.

(bottle) Hazy, golden colour with a blond medium-sized foamy head. Sweet cara-malty and grainy aroma with notes of biscuits, citrus and vanilla. Bitter-sweet flavour, full bodied with a calm carbonation. Pale malty, slightly biscuity taste with a restrained fruit-character and a slightly harsh alcoholic note; bitter and slightly sweet and hoppy alcoholic finish. Lacks balance. 15.I.10

Bottle. Pours a clear orangish amber with an off-white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma has sweet notes with candy sugar and caramel clearly present. Also a bit of underlying nutmeg. Flavor is sweet as well with undertones of nutmeg and alcohol.

33cl bottle from Dranken Geers. Gold with lots of mid sized white floaters and thick off white head. Moderate slightly sweet fruit tripel aroma. Not very yeasty or tripel fruity. More sweet and toffee than anything else. It’s alright, just a little bland and lacking any real character. Some hop sting on finish.
