Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.
We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.
In hops we trust!

33cl bottle from Pohjala Chris. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - chocolate and lime marmalade. Taste - coffee and a citrus probably lemon. Palate - medium bodied with a tangy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - a decent black ipa but would prefer if the chocolate and citrus was more integrated.

Bottle at Craig’s. It pours darkest brown with minimal white head. The nose is earthy, toasty, cocoa, roasted malt and weak coffee. The taste is roasty, toast, plum skin, liquorice, dirt, date, earth, light pepper with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Miles better than the paint stripper beer. Still ok at best.

Bottle at Craig’s. It pours hazy golden with a small white head. The nose is orange peel, sherbet, light alcohol and muffin. The taste is raw alcohol, paint stripper, varnish, filth, rubbing alcohol and industrial cleaning fluids. Medium body and fine carbonation. Smells ok, but tastes god damn awful.

33cl bottle from Pohjala Chris. Appearance - cloudy golden orange with a decent head. Nose - bug pink grapefruit zing. Taste - more of the grapefruit thing. A slightly sour yoghurt note at the back. Palate - light to medium bodied with a tangy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - reminds me of one of the single hopped golden ales rather than a wheat ale. Enjoyable. The grapefruit thing is a little one dimensional but it’s a tasty dimension.
