Bottle bought in Belgium as Belo Petroleum, 11% abv. Pours jet black, almost flat, although a few very dark brown bubbles can be coaxed. Aroma of fruity coffee and cocoa. Taste is rich dark chocolate, licorice, mostly on the sweet side but with a dryish finish with just a touch of alcohol heat. Tasty and very drinkable despite high abv.

375 ml bottle into chalice, bottled in 2/2014. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy dark ruby red color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, toffee, molasses, brown sugar, vanilla, raisin, plum, fig, date, oak, coriander, clove, pepper, brown bread, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast/oak earthiness. Incredible aromas with awesome balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, fruity/earthy yeast, and oak/spice notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, molasses, brown sugar, vanilla, raisin, plum, fig, date, oak, coriander, clove, pepper, brown bread, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast/oak earthiness. Fair amount of earthy yeast spiciness and herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, molasses, brown sugar, vanilla, dark fruits, oak, coriander, clove, pepper, herbal, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and balance of dark/bready malt, fruity/earthy yeast and oak/spice flavors; with an awesome malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly creamy/slick mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an absolutely incredible Quadrupel style. All around fantastic complexity and balance of dark/bready malt, fruity/earthy yeast, and oak/spice flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the big ABV. An insanely delicious offering all around.

355 ml bottle. Pours a clear dark gold with very little head. Light aromas of candied fruit and toasted malts with a hint of Belgian yeast. Flavors of candied fruit, apples, light resin, and coriander. No hint of the ABV and actually quite pleasant for an easy drinking saison. 11

Slightly hazy amber. No head. The aroma is kind of plasticy, the wrong direction of Belgian phenols. No hop or fruit or anything good like that. Sweet, plasticy character of phenols and alcohol. Some peachy esters, but nothing all that tropical, and not Belgian either. Just not managing that yeast well, and it comes up pretty unappetizing. I had a pretty good tripel from these guys in Rio a couple of years ago, so this one is disappointing.

Minimal lacing on the glass with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of raisin, prune, fig, date, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate, light clove/pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, raisins, and dark/bready malt notes; with decent strength. Taste of big raisin, prune, fig, date, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate, light clove/pepper, and yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, prune, fig, date, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate, light pepper/clove, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice robustness and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, raisins, and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice dubbel style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, raisins, and fruity/earthy yeast flavors; and very smooth to sip on despite the lacking carbonation. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle - Orange, fruity esters, yeasty notes and some light spice. Clear orange gold with almost no head. Grassy, fruity esters and very dry. Herbal notes on the finish. Not sure what I was expecting in a Christmas saison, but I would have thought some spices.

Bottle. Hazy dark orange with very small foamy white head, slight citrusy aroma, low carbonation, sweetish malt taste, long finish with orange peel aftertaste. Quite a good attempt at an Abbey Tripel.

A hazed dark copper brown ale with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with dark fruits, light floral hops, maderized, still nice. In mouth, sweet fruity caramel malt with dark fruits, licorice, alcohol warmth, light resinous notes, OK. Bottle from 2014, from Brazil.
