Deadication cider to 18th Century naval officer and statesman William Cornwallis, who died on this day in 1819 and briefly served on HMS Excellent. This Cornwall cider is also excellent, very deep in taste and its golden colour, which glows. Its superb bitter-sweet apples do linger in the palate with hints of caramel. Some aroma.

Tap somewhere in Cornwall. Clear golden body with a very small head and low carbonation. Fine, fresh apple aroma. Flavor is nice and refreshing apple, slightly sour green apple and dry finish. Medium body, OK aftertaste. Nice and refreshing, pretty straight forward.

1 litre bottle, poured out of a keg I assume, from Smiling Grape. I didn't realise it was a still mulled cider so I'm actually drinking this fridge cold. Look - deep hazy purple/mahogany, no head. Nose - nice spices of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, undercurrent of apples. Taste - flavours carry through particularly the cinnamon and a slight tangy apple. However, its a bit light and lacks some depth to make it a great cider. Palate - light to medium bodied, some sweet oiliness which clings to the teeth Overall - nice flavours although lacks some alcohol bite.

Bottle from lowcostbeer. Clear purple with brief fizzy head. Aroma of fruity sweet and tangy raspberries. Taste the same with a sweet finish. Light to medium bodied, somewhat syrupy. Fairly tasty.

Bottle from Northumbrian Gifts, online. Pours clear gold with some small white foam. Aroma of mellow apple juice, white sugars, some vanilla. Taste of lightly stewed apples, sweet sugars, apple skins, light drying finish. Very sessionable and good fruitiness. Lacks a bit of complexity but tasty.

Bottle from Northumberland Gifts. Yes a bit odd - big land mass gap between Northumberland and Cornwall but £28 for a 12 x 500ml mixed cider box is good value. This one pours a classic clear gold with some small bubbly foam. Aroma of lightly sour apple juice, some core and skin notes, sugar dusting. Fairly mellow but pleasant. Taste is sweet and moderately sour apple juice, tangy oily finish. It lacks some depth but its a session cider so that's fine. However I find the combination of sweet, tart and oiliness to be a bit sickly. Not a fan but I finished it ok.
