Description
In 1992, Paul Theakston took a daring leap into the unknown. As a fifth generation brewer of his family company, he chose to leave T&R Theakstons following its sale to a national brewery. Instead, he chose to champion independent brewing in Yorkshire and built his own brewery in the very same town, Masham. The brewhouse contains a mixture of tradition and innovation, using the Yorkshire Square Fermentation system which we hold dearly. Our original brewhouse was built from reclaimed equipment which we still use to this day.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks David C. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma of earthy hops, flowers and biscuit notes. Flavor starts with some grainy malt and finishes bitter and hoppy with citric notes. Medium-bodied.

At a tasting, thanks David, smallish head, a little deep golden colour, aroma of grass and a touch of honey, dry lemony flavour with some bready malt in the back and a medium bitterness that lingers for a while. light aftertaste with a touch of malty sournees. Feels more like a golden ale then an ESB.

Amber, light beige head. Smells of flowers, fruit and a little malt. Tastes gentle and balanced - there’s caramel and fruit sweetness and mild hops. For a bottled bitter, this is rather good. [3.4] The pasteurised quality makes it wear out its welcome a bit, but otherwise the same. Very decent for a pasteurised bitter.

Bottle. Pours with a clear burnt orange to brown colored body and a decently sized off-white head. Aroma of earth, wet leaves, toffee, chocolate, leather and a hint of freshly cut fruit (stone fruit or pears, not sure, very faint). Taste is light roast, toffee, leaves, decently harsh bitterness, smoke, and the brulee part of a creme brulee. Medium bubbles. Easy to drink. Lots of nuances.

(bottle) Clear, amber colour with a light-beige medium-sized foamy head. Sweet caramel-malty aroma with lime, ginger and woody hops. Bitter-sweet flavour, light bodied with a crisp carbonation. Caramelly malty and moderately citrus-/lime-fruity taste with notes of butterscotch and earthy, woody hops; quite dry and moderately bitter, subtle fruity finish. Well-rounded and pretty tasty for a beer of 4.4% abv. 10.I.10

500 ml bottle, thanks to my beerpal Egil. ABV is 5.0%. Deep golden colour, big and lasting white head. Pleasant fruity aroma of hops, notes of orange marmalade and toffee. The flavour is well hopped throughout, with a sufficient malty backbone, the finish is very bitter with some metallic notes.

Light malt aroma. Clear amber, no head. Watered down flavor of typical English malts. This must be the macro of English bitters.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a glass. Pours light amber with not much head that disappears quickly. Almost no lacing, little carbonation, and light fruit aroma. Taste is well balanced with the malt being roasty bread and a hint of apple and honey and some herbal hops in the finish. This is pretty good.
