Description
110 years of Contreras in a 190 year old brewery. In 1818 Brewery Latte was founded as a typical farm-brewery. In the second half of the 19th century the company was led by Valère Latte who sold the brewery in 1898 to René Contreras. In 1920 René Contreras chose to sell his brewery to his nephew Marcel Contreras. it was Marcel who would transform the brewery into a modern 20th century company. He shaped the buildings as they currently still remain. In 1982 Marcel's son Willy became the sole manager of the brewery. At the start of the 21st century Ann Contreras, the only daughter of Willy Contreras, and her fiancée Frederik De Vrieze gradually took over the daily management of the brewery.

Very huge, creamy, off-white head, leaving some lace; pale yellow-gold with a faint olive shine. Creamy nose, bit of vanilla, and obviously lots of white candi sugar; citrus aroma’s. Dry taste, some malts and flavours of citrus. Faint spicey, dried citrus zeste, horseradish or yellow mustard powder. Dried fruit, but not sugary. Bit burning MF, despite the pure pale malts. Quite dry, well attenuated. Loads of out-fermented white candi sugar: dry, citrussy beer; OK, mission accomplished. But where’s the individuality, the character?

Hazy mahogany beer; fast disappearing yellow-brown head. Very rich, malty, portwine aromas, but not oxydized, vinous, wood and some just-less-than-usually-strong brandy. Very dry, nearly wry, woody, dark malts taste - very surprising seen the nose! Restsugars all the same, bit caramelly. Rather well bodied, certain slickness. Dry-out effect. Surprising, but far from bad. I would have loved some tannine-like sourness, to make it more Flemish brown-like. But I think, with aging...Earlier Rating: 11/6/2005 Total Score: 3.3Very deep-dark brown beer; yellowish, very creamy head leaving rings of lace. Dark malts, dark green leaves, some dry dark chocolate, aromatic. Dry, grainy taste, dry hay flavour with dark malts, bit bready. Quite full bodied, very fiery throat feel, can’t be the alcohol though. There’s a new wind blowing through the old Contreras brewery. I’m not sure I’m a big fan of blowing away all the dust with the old settled recipes, however...

A hazy orange beer with a huge white head. Very yeasty, spicy and malty nose. The flavor is very fruity with notes of peaches, but also some spices comes thru, and the alcohol makes it presence known with a nice body.

My 500th Belgian rating.
Hazy orange color, big orangy head. Sticky orange fruity-rye-alcoholic aroma. Fruity, yeasty, biter flavor - maybe some orange peels found too. Woody dryness in the aftertaste. Basic Belgian ale, not a real winner.

Hazy yellow, small white head. Fruity, sugary, wheaty aroma. Medium-bodied and yeasty. Hoppy, nice citron flavor. Like yeasty semi-triple flavor. Good and tasty with all this yeast maybe good for cellaring too.
