Description
110 years of Contreras in a 190 year old brewery. In 1818 Brewery Latte was founded as a typical farm-brewery. In the second half of the 19th century the company was led by Valère Latte who sold the brewery in 1898 to René Contreras. In 1920 René Contreras chose to sell his brewery to his nephew Marcel Contreras. it was Marcel who would transform the brewery into a modern 20th century company. He shaped the buildings as they currently still remain. In 1982 Marcel's son Willy became the sole manager of the brewery. At the start of the 21st century Ann Contreras, the only daughter of Willy Contreras, and her fiancée Frederik De Vrieze gradually took over the daily management of the brewery.

Beautiful, hazy amber color; generous head. Light aroma of caramel and grains. Medium body strength, the flavor is based on some sweet caramel and malt, with some good influences from the yeast; the bitterness is correct; but it’s a quite plain one, not exciting.

Hazy blond color; nice lace. A very original Belgian Ale, partially in line with the tradition, but with an understated hopping, making both aroma and flavor be also flowery and fruity; there is also some residual sweetness. Very interesting.

Fruity taste with balanced notes of spices, orange, lemon and mandarin. Very drinkable for the abv. (bottle, with thanks to bierkoning!) Almost clear, amber to copper colour with mid-sized, slowly lacing tanned foamy head. Moderately sweet, slightly dusty toast-malty aroma with caramel, subtle fruity (berries, dates) and noticeable alcoholic notes. Sweet flavour, medium body, smooth carbonation. Toast-malty taste with caramel and a subtle fruitiness; sweet, slightly spicy and bitter finish with a bit of alcohol coming through. Decent brew.

Tasted at Trollkelder, Ghent. Dark brown and thick, lasting head. Dry, roasted barley flavor, almost smoky. Lightly sweet malt flavor, and a salty, dry finish.

Bright-gold with a retreating white head, leaving lace. A bit milky, and slightly bready nose as with German sour bread - in a white version. Tastes grainy, lager-like beer, corn as well, sweet like canned corn. A bit of DMS? Pineapple flavour. Light though not watery. Surprising beer. I can’t get the height of it, of its purpose?

Bottled. A deep red beer with a huge brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of nuts, brown sugar, and citrus fruits, as well as light notes of vegetables. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of spices and nuts, as well as lesser notes of fruit, malt of a roasted character, which makes the end a bit dry, yet combined with a sweetness, that lingers.
