Bottle. Clear palish amber with a white head that starts at an inch and a half and fades gradually to a good coat. Aroma of peach, fresh pineapple, some tenor-register citrus; sticky bread crust underneath. Oily, with moderate carbonation. There’s a fair bit of breadcrust and caramel sweetness (with hints of honey), but it’s not flabby. Peach, pineapple, kumquat.. The pineapple seems mildly astringent, or maybe that’s me unconsciously filling in the gap. Quite bitter, but it struggles to cut through the sweetness, as is often the way of these sorts of beers. Probably going for a Ruination sort of thing here - not too shabby, just doesn’t quite pop enough. Feel a bit stingy here - could anybody here have made this 3 years ago?

This dark, black beer has a great combo of aromas, including aniseed, biscuit, breadcrumbs, and cherry ripe. The alcohol makes its presence known, along with a strong cherry presence which makes it slightly sweeter than I’d like. It does have a nice finish, with roasted malt and grapefruit.

500ml bottle from Dan Murphy’s, Hurstville. Clear dark brown amber colour, tan foam head leaving lacing and aroma of caramel, toffee,orangey citrus, pine, hop resins. Taste is rye malt, caramel, toffee, slight roasted note, orange citrus, grapefuit, woody pine, hop resin, spicy, earthy bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry tangy bitter finish. Nicely drinkable.

Can. Clear pale orange with a white head. Aroma of pineapple, guava, hay, honeydew melon. Light bodied, fizzy. Some oranges in the taste too. No particular finish, not much bitterness. Nice hops in the aroma but a bit bland after that. Pleasant dust cutter.

375ml can into schooner glass. A VERY pale ale indeed. Colour is watery yellow with solid white head and a few lazy bubbles. Nose is distant melon. Light body and watery mouthfeel. Finish is dry and long with a touch of grapefruit. Easy drinking but ploughs the same furrow (albeit much better) as the new Aussie macro ’Pale Ales’ (Tooheys Darling, XXXX Gold Pale Ale, Lazy Yak). Not horrible at all but no more than a BBQ beer.

Bottle shared at Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell - London. Big thanks to Big Dave! Pours clear brown with a creamy, tan head. Some milk chocolate present, a bit of light rubber, earth, mild char. Light bodied with average carbonation. Toasted brown bread in the finish, some milk chocolate, moderate dirt and earth bitterness. Fair.

Near black. Thin head. Roasty nose with light Milo. Full body, sweet front but balanced bitterness with Milo finish.

Amber, thick sparkler head. Fruity, English yeast, sweetish, toasty, very quaffable from the handpump. Earthy, touch of caramel in the finish.

As every 4 Pines beer we get in Melbourne is MOR, I wasn’t expecting much from this IPA. With expectations set so low, I was pleasantly surprised. The aroma is pine needles and spearmint, and the pine and mint combine with grapefruit in the mouth to pristine a very hoppy, resinous beer. Very nice.
