Another long desired Belgian quadrupel, I finally obtained Extra Bruin through an accessible retailer that took care of business. I have the 750 ml bottle to sample. Oh yes, and complete I am sure. Minimal information on the label, it does say 9.5% abv. I lift the cap and pour into my favorite Trappistes Rochefort glass. It arrives a medium-to-dark brown while completed with a thinnish, light tan top. I take a smell, dark fruit, bread, crackers and field. All this is prep, now I have a drink. My goodness, this is fine. A straightforward maltiness, dates, chocolate, a touch of vanilla, dark bread and raisin. It finishes with an appropriate bitterness. A thick consistency, chewy. This is a complete package folks. Comparable to the best quads I have had and it is my favorite style.

The type of beer you really need to drink quite warm to get the flavours out. It’s more of a dubbel than a dark strong. Not super bold flavours for the style, but they are all there but rather subdued. online belgian beer factory

Great bright belgian ale. The yeast comes through nicely to dominate the flavour, but isn't super strong. The alcohol shines through a bit, but offers a nice warm. Low bitterness, some belgian candy flavour. online belgian beer factory bottle. Slightly wine winey

27 April 2019. At Zythos Bierfestival. Deputy Taster: Anke. Cheers to Ama Deke, Erwin, John & Meeki! Hazy brown, lasting, thin, frothy, tan head; some deposit. Aroma of candi sugar, caramel, pear syrup, candied date, dough, salted peanut, chocolate. Taste is medium malty sweet, quite nutty, restrained caramel, chocolate & fig, sourish brambleberry too; bitter edges of dried tea leaves, toast, clove (somewhat phenolic) & mocha, leading to a dryish, herbal hoppy finish, a bit earthy, where nuts & burnt caramel linger. Medium body, slick texture, lively carbonation. Doesn’t really distinguish itself for me at this moment. Reminder to have this one again, perhaps from a nicely aged bottle.

27 April 2019. At Zythos Bierfestival. Deputy Taster: Anke. Cheers to Ama Deke, Erwin, John & Meeki! Hazy ochre, lasting, small, foamy, white head. Aroma of ripe banana & apricot, yellow apple, dough, mango, wheat, clove, honey. Taste is medium fruity sweet, lots of ripe banana & pineapple on a honeyish & bready malty base, spicy bitter tones of clove, apple peel & grass, sourish wheat & lemon underneath. Dryish, peppery hoppy finish, more ripe banana, honey & bread, some warming white wine-like alcohol. Medium body, creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. ‘Classic’ Belgian blond, not revolutionary but a good example in its own right.

Clear blond colour with thin soapy head. Aroma and flavour have light spicy yeast and a little malty sweetness. Clean and well balanced.

0.33 bottle from Italy. Golden Amber, tinge of haze, low carbonation/head but fine bubbles. Sweet caramel syrup and flower nectar nose. Flavor is heavy Trappist yeast notes, caramel, complex and flowery without a lot of hop flavor; A bit of mid-/late-palate bitterness rounds it out nicely though. Dry white wine aftertaste. Classic blonde!

hazy, golden beer with some carbonation and a nice white head. Smell is sweet fruit and grassy hop. Flavour is really nicely balanced. You've got the clean sweetness you'd expect from a Belgian blonde but the bitterness of the hop counters it to make the whole thing crisp and refreshing but still sweet and tasty without being sickly. Lovely.
