Description
It all started with a neighbor sharing a homemade beer. Liz saw how excited Jamil was and bought him a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas. Jamil became obsessed with brewing the perfect beer and became a homebrew legend in the process by winning a first-place medal in every known beer, mead, and cider style category. Eventually, his passion to brew was too strong and Jamil and Liz decided to take the plunge and open Heretic Brewing Company.

We started by sharing a building with another brewery in 2011, but we always brewed our beer ourselves. Within the first six months we realized there wasn’t enough space for two breweries in one building, so we began the search for a new place. By 2013, we had built a new, modern brewery in the wonderful city of Fairfield, California and moved all our operations there, including our new distillery.

On tap at City Beer. An unclear, dark amber beer with a thin, beige head. The aroma is quite malty, toffee, bread and a little roasted hint, but with a good shot of hops too. Soft carbonation, very smooth, quite sweetish and almost sticky, and a warming alcohol touch. Lots of flavor, bother malty and hoppy, a balancing bitterness almost them. Lasting finish. Most certainly a beer I could repeat. 130805

Bottle thanks to a trade. Pours a near clear dark brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has some musty dark grains and light chocolate with a bit of underlying toffee. Flavor has musty dark grains throughout the beer with a bit of sweet chocolate and caramel underlying.

On tap at Gourmet Haus. Nice aroma mixing both citrus and spice from the yeast. Moderate amount of lemon as well. I got a slight amount of funk from the Brett, but not too much. Well balanced and tasty.

From bottle to tulip glass. Grassy, dank and resinous on the initial aroma. Some slight, sweet grain in the backgound. Beautiful, clear old gold with an off-white head that initially billows with mixed sized bubbles. A little soapy looking. Taste is grassy hops with massive bitterness. Some pine and resin. Sweet malt near the end in moderate amounts. Finishes dry.

Sample at the Memorial Day Deck Beers tasting on 05/27/2013: Pours a clear dark amber color with a medium foamy beige head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, caramel and fruit. Full, syrupy body with flavors of caramel malt, ripe bananas and yeast. The finish is sweet with a fruity aftertaste. Decent overall.

Another great bomber from bhensonb; he is so generous!! Nose is rye bread, sweet caramel, and light floral and citrus. Clear copper orange with a small offwhite head. Flavor is moderately bitter, white peppery, and lightly spicy. Darn good for a 4.4% beer.

Pours brown with a large head.Nose shows herbal, spicy and piny hops along with some biscuity malt and a minty note.Very similar flavours: herbal, minty and piny hops alongside some toasty malt hidden underneath followed by a sharp, aggressive bitterness.Carbonation is a little over the top.
