Description
It all started with a neighbor sharing a homemade beer. Liz saw how excited Jamil was and bought him a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas. Jamil became obsessed with brewing the perfect beer and became a homebrew legend in the process by winning a first-place medal in every known beer, mead, and cider style category. Eventually, his passion to brew was too strong and Jamil and Liz decided to take the plunge and open Heretic Brewing Company.

We started by sharing a building with another brewery in 2011, but we always brewed our beer ourselves. Within the first six months we realized there wasn’t enough space for two breweries in one building, so we began the search for a new place. By 2013, we had built a new, modern brewery in the wonderful city of Fairfield, California and moved all our operations there, including our new distillery.

Bottle. Pours hazy orange amber with a large creamy off-white head that dissipates slowly with some lacing. Aroma is pine, citrus, caramel. Flavor is the same, lightly sweet and medium bitterness that carries into the far finish. Medium bodied and oily textured in the mouth.

Tap at the Cask, Pimlico - 19/10/12. Lightly hazed amber with a big white head - good lacing ensues. Big pine nose backed up by sweet malt, some nuttiness, pumpkin and spice. Pine forward flavour, very bitter grapefruit, a little wood and other citrus tones. Fuller end of medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a bitter finish. Drinkable DIPA but certainly no ’wow’ factor to this one!

Bomber from Corti Bros. Pours dark ruddy copper with a slight, transient beige or tan head. Aroma of dark fruits and caramel. Full bodied. Flavor has some chocolate, and caramel and dark fruit. Suggestions of candied fruit likely. Heat is detectable. Drinks very, very nicely. Could easily substitute for a quad.

Bottle received in trade. Thank you Claspada. Pours tiny hazy golden with a small frothy white head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace. Smell is slightly sweet with cereal, buttery wood, persimmon, dandelion, grass, plums, green grapes, almond paste, apples and pears. Taste is sweet with pears, red apples, buttery wood, hay, dry soil, white bread, alcohol, green grapes and plums. Mouthfeel is round and medium bodied. Finish is sweet witch crackers, buttery wood, pears, biscuits and hay. Not sure I’m a fan of the buttery character of this one.

Bomber from Beverages 4 Less in Santee, CA. Pours hazy light gold with a creamy/foamy white head. Can’t get much aroma. Med minus body. Flavor is lightly tart wheat. Building up a bit of lemon sour. Nice, but certainly not on the extreme end of the style. Maybe gets a bit yeasty in the finish.

Bottle - Heretic tasting at Artisan Wine Depot. Pours clear amber with a small white head and some lacing. Aroma is caramel, rye, toast, and hay. Flavor is much the same with a light spicy bitter finish. Light bodied and a bit watery, but at 4.4% ABV that is understandable. Not bad, but not my thing
