Description
It all started with a neighbor sharing a homemade beer. Liz saw how excited Jamil was and bought him a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas. Jamil became obsessed with brewing the perfect beer and became a homebrew legend in the process by winning a first-place medal in every known beer, mead, and cider style category. Eventually, his passion to brew was too strong and Jamil and Liz decided to take the plunge and open Heretic Brewing Company.

We started by sharing a building with another brewery in 2011, but we always brewed our beer ourselves. Within the first six months we realized there wasn’t enough space for two breweries in one building, so we began the search for a new place. By 2013, we had built a new, modern brewery in the wonderful city of Fairfield, California and moved all our operations there, including our new distillery.

650ml bomber from Deguchiya, Tokyo. Poured into a snifter. Beautiful mahogany amber color with a nice eggshell colored head. Caramel, dark buckwheat honey, granola bar, pine needles, grassy aromas present. Well balanced on the palate, sweet and dry finish from the hops. Really nice piney hop taste with sweetness from the malt.

Bottle. Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Hazy, orangey amber. Thin, lasting, white head. Fusty orange. Pine cone. Pine resin. Ginger biscuit, sweet malts. A bit of black pepper. Taste is light sweet, light, woody dry, and mostly, piny, bitter. Airy, soft, but full palate. Finishes long, dank, fusty bitter. Very nice.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark gold with a white head. Pine aroma. Med body. Flavor is pine/citrus. Maybe a tad of honey left on my lips. It’s pretty bitter. Do not fear it being sweet.

Tap at Dig. GLowing orange-brown, clear, slightly lacy. Boozy nose--gin? With plums, orange, a bit of metal. Meaty malt flavor, booze, roange, chocolate, booze, caramel, raisin, stewed peaches. Too young, and a bit light, but shows a lot of promise.

On tap at Dig’s Tochigi Beer Week Event. Now this was a luscious beer! Heretic Torment 10% Belgian dark Ale pours a ruby cola pour with a surprisingly herbal nose that gives me oregano & dark malts. The taste is big bready dark malts, some fudge + banana really tasty & smooth. Good stuff.

Tap at The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate. Med + body. Flavor is marginally sweetish dark malt and chocolate. Nice, tasty brew. Lots of flavor given the ABV.

On tap at Dig Bar. Petit rouge is an insanely bright red. A syrupy berry & wine like aroma. The taste is full on berry but with a bit cardboard or stiffness. Interesting but odd in a way. This is a hibiscus beer but I don’t get much of a floral character from it. Pass.

Bottle thanks to timfoolery shared with duchammer: Poured a mahogany with a whispery off white head. Aroma is sweet dark fruits, shards of chocolate, and light veggie. Strong dark fruit alcohol burn up front, opens your taste buds to sweet caramel and sugars.
