Description
Based in the heart of Stockport for almost two centuries, and owning around 260 tenanted and managed pubs, inns and hotels across the North West, ‘Robinsons’ is one of oldest and most respected names in British brewing history.
Robinsons took over Hartleys brewery in 1982, closing down the Ulverston plant in 1994 and transferring the Hartley brands to the Unicorn brewery. Robinsons bought the rights to the Ward brands in 2006 but subsequently sold some of those brands to Maxim Beer Co.

0.5 l bottle. Nice, amber-orangeish color with a quickly vanishing head foam. Fruits and malts in aroma and sweet taste with a bitter finish. Quite decent.

Bottle at home, koszi Tomi! Pours deep copper with a thin, off-white head. Nose is pretty held back, showing some malts, dried fruits, metallic notes, and esters. Taste is low nutty malty, some fruits also appear, has that metallic touch again, but basically that’s it. Light, or even thin body, soft carbo. Meh.

Bottle at home, koszi Tomi! Pours clear golden with quickly disappearing white head. Nose is peppery, herbal notes, light esters too. Taste is surprisingly bitter (well, considering), showing herbal hoppy notes, but also there’s a hint of malts in there. Long lasting bitter and dry finish, light body. Perhaps a but dumb, but not that bad actually.

0.33 l bottle scored in a small shop for a ridiculously low price. Deep golden color with no head, looks like a pilsner. Very strong, artificial fruity aroma, I miss the hops and bitterness. Very thin, very watery bitterish taste. Lively carbonation, light body. Not a good IPA. Olcsó húsnak híg a leve.

0.33 l bottle. Pours deep brown with beige head. Roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, fruity and alcoholic notes in aroma. Coffee, roasted malts, chocolate and even some hops in taste with long, coffeeish finish and warm mouthfeel. Medium bodied, softly carbonated. Nice.

Bottle at home, koszi Tomi! Pours opaque golden with white head. Nose is bittersweet macro lager, one from the better ones tho, and some additional esters. Taste is corn, stale malts, some bitterness, pretty clean and characterless all in all. Short abrupt finish, light body, lively carbonation. Erm I dunno.

Bottle, köszi Tomi! Copperish pour, no head. Nose is initially unpleasant metallic, but with time it fades; afterwards I picked up esters mainly and some sweetness. Taste is somewhat estery, somewhat malty, with some candi sugar to it. That metallic character popped up in taste as well, but with warming it faded just like in the aroma. All in all a decent belgian ale (as malty as it was I thought it's a dubbel), but kinda mediocre.

0.5 l bottle from 'Mr. Hop', best before July 2025. Almost clear, golden orange with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, fruity-resiny, slightly herbal-grassy aroma of marmalade, earl grey, orange and light tobacco. Gently sweet, moderately bitter, quite fruity-resiny and a bit herbal-grassy taste of marmalade, orange, earl grey, tobacco and light mango, followed by a short, moderately bitter finish. Medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very British, but also quite nice.
