Description
Based in the heart of Stockport for almost two centuries, and owning around 260 tenanted and managed pubs, inns and hotels across the North West, ‘Robinsons’ is one of oldest and most respected names in British brewing history.

Robinsons took over Hartleys brewery in 1982, closing down the Ulverston plant in 1994 and transferring the Hartley brands to the Unicorn brewery. Robinsons bought the rights to the Ward brands in 2006 but subsequently sold some of those brands to Maxim Beer Co.

500ml bottle. Clear, orange golden colour with small to average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Slightly citrusy fruity, grassy and minimally leafy, hoppy aroma, pale and slightly caramel malty background, hints of lemon tea. Taste is slightly bitter, minimally piney and citrusy hoppy, minimally strawy, pale malty, a touch of lemon, minimally soapy overtones.
Slightly oily, watery texture, minimally dry palate, medium, mildly prickly carbonation.
Light, fairly bitter, restrained flavours - so-so.

24/IV/25 - 50cl bottle from Mr. Hop (webshop) @ Peter’s 50th birthday party, Cabane Banane (Gent), BB: n/a (2025-405) Thanks to Peter for sharing today’s beers!

Clear orange blond beer, small creamy white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: very malty, lots of cow fodder, grains, hay, oxidized, more cow fodder. How is this an IPA? MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: a bit sourish up front, very malty, grains, cow fodder, weird. Aftertaste: bitter, hoppy, grassy, oxidized, malty, bleh. Probably way too old. Didn’t get a look at the best-by date though. The bottle had already disappeared somewhere.

Bottle. Really liked this beer. Deep, dark amber color with a small white head and no lace. Aroma was very mild but complex. Hints of chocolate, dried fruit and wisps of roasted grain and coffee. Taste was roasted gain and light chocolate at first with a sweet dreid fruit finish.
