Pours a deep ruby color. Aromoa is kinda of winey with hints of chocolate. Flavor is fruit. I can taste prunes,plums and pears. Goes down quite smooth and warm. For the amount of alcohol in this it is hidden in the flavor.

Bottled. Nice dark amber color. Pours with a good head for an English ale. Taste is a tad dry, complemented by a subtle hop profile. A decent example of a "Northern" style.

Bottled. Very light in color and taste, at least for the style. Our homebrew club mention Goldings and Fuggles in the hop nose. This also has more caramel taste than expected. A good session beer with a clean finish.

(Cask)Dark amber; slight head. very light hopnose, a bit of coloured malts. very well-balanced taste, between British (discreet) hopsand malts, slightly caramelised. Palate is a bit empty. Caramel much obvious in the aftertaste - even butterscotch - but hops are gone. A bit above average. Nothing exciting.

Very dark brown. Brown-yellow head, dissipating. Nose of ripe fruit, especially mango & banana, raisins too, vinous, and finally hops and coffee in the background. Very short sweet, fruity onset, then a harsh bitterbite, much more burnt malts than hops. Retronasal like gingerbread having been too long in the oven. Rich, reasonably chewy mouthfeel. This overly-roasted taste is just a bit too much. Pity of the harsh palate. The first impression in nose & taste is superb. A quality old ale. I wish I could have it on draught again, to compare.

Bottled. Dark ruby. Deep, fruity raisiny aroma. Bold maltiness, lightly salty, rather clean. Relatively low bitterness. I expect more complexity in a beer of this gravity.
