Description
Based in the heart of Stockport for almost two centuries, and owning around 260 tenanted and managed pubs, inns and hotels across the North West, ‘Robinsons’ is one of oldest and most respected names in British brewing history.
Robinsons took over Hartleys brewery in 1982, closing down the Ulverston plant in 1994 and transferring the Hartley brands to the Unicorn brewery. Robinsons bought the rights to the Ward brands in 2006 but subsequently sold some of those brands to Maxim Beer Co.

Bottle. Dark brown color with nearly no head. Great aroma of dried fruit, nearly like portwine. Flavour of alcohol, with hints of caramel and sweet maltness.

Bottle, had this at a friends house.Amber coloured with a med’ white head. Toffee is abundant in the flavour and has a sweet malty nose. Not great but not bad.

(Cask at Baker’s Vault, Stockport, 29 July) Colour is pale amber with frothy off-white head. Nose is malty and fruity with hints of apricots, orange, mandarin. Taste starts malty, turns fruitier with some orange and apricots. Light body, smooth, modest hop character. Friendly and ok, but not very interesting.

(Cask at Briton’s Protection, Manchester, 28 July) Colour is golden amber with firm white head. Nose is malty with some dark fruit, notes of dried apricots and orange peel. Taste is fruity with orange, mandarin and apricots, with some earthy/dusty hops in the balanced bitter finish. Good balance between sweetness and bitterness. Not really exciting, but I wouldn’t mind another one.

Cask: Copper coloured, medium-sized lacing off-white foam; yeasty, almost "wooden" aroma with a strong touch of sulphur and a distinctive herbal hoppiness; moderate bitter flavour; lingering, a bit yeasty and bitter finish. Not unpleasant..............

(Bottle 50 cl) Beautiful, clear amber golden with a creamy, white head. Unusual banana aroma - almost Hefe style. Medium body, vaguely caramelish and then nothing much more. Light, bitter finish. 110606

Cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. Copper colour, lasting beige head. Good hoppy, muddy earthy citrus. It’s quite a good bitter, some toffee/caramel and I am impressed with the hop flavours.
