Cask at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Nut brown. Nutty malt aroma with a not negligable dash of salty mango. Light-medium bodied with pleasantly soft mouthfeel. Strong notes of lingoneberries. Very gentle and quaffable, yet not without complexity.

(Cask at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Mid brown colour with hints of ruby, not much head. Malty, fruity nose with dark cherries, raisins and some chocolate. Taste is malty with dark fruit and cherries. Rather sweet. Some bitterness (not much though) comes through in the drier finish. Fair enough.

Bottled. Dark amberish ruby red, with bubbly sparkling head. Aroma of alcohol, licorace, some plummy notes. The flavour is sweet at first (plummy) and then get a small hoppy kick, though the plum also stays there. Long sticky sweet fruitish aftertaste. A bit oily palate.

Dark ruby red, good creamy tan head. Caramelly, some raisins, a bit strange malty aroma. Old ale -like sharp metallic, licorice, salty and fruity flavor. Aftertaste has licorice and some alcohol. Drinkable but a bit uninteresting as an old ale.

Bottle from Ølbutikken in Copenhagen. Nice dark brown appearance. Sweet malty flavours. Thick mouthful and a winelike taste. Notes on yeast in the end (sampled together with Finn, 27.01.2006)

Cask gravity at Dover BF 06. Very dark ruby, with beige head. Nice attractive boiled sweet aroma. Quite hoppy. Yep, it’s quite sweet but it’s pretty good. The hop can be quite severe. Good dark rich beer, slightlly hoppier than bottle version

Cask handpull at Ship & Mitre, Liverpool. Copper colour with thin white head. Typical Robinson’s yeasty aroma. Otherwise some pear like fruit, hoppy, earthy finish. Oooh, a bitter!

Bottled, at homebrew club tasting. We were supposed to be bringing in barelywines, but most tasters correctly picked this out as an Old Ale. Pours with a sweet smell of caramel, dates and raisons. No head. Thick beer clings to the sides of the glass, but alcohol itself is kind of thin. Taste is largely of plump raisins and some lesser distinguished fruits, then turns dry at the finish.

Cask handpull at Wetherspoons Folkestone. Don’t you just love it when they use a blank pump clip and just write the name of the beer on it? And then you ask who the brewer is and the people behind the bar have absolutely no idea. I mean they are only selling 6 beers, how difficult can it be? And this was the bar manager!! Worrying times. Fortunately Wetherspoons handy guest cask ale list pamphlet listed this. Reddish copper with thin bubbly beige head. Red fruit and some yeast. Faint caramel and yeast and fruit flavours in the mouth are pretty good. Served too cold. Finish has some earthy citrus. Some lemon in with strawberry and cherry. Still a bit thin to be really good
