12 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Nose is subtle, with notes of dry bitter cocoa and light roastiness. Flavour is along the same lines, featuring a dry palate of bitter dry cocoa and medium roasted malt. Pretty gentle and smooth -- could use a thicker mouthfeel and a rounder flavour profile, but for a "smaller" stout, this is quite nice.

Bottle with thanks to Brian! Pours reddish amber with a medium beige head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is rye bread, caramel, grass, not getting citrus at all. Flavor is fairly sweet, lots of caramel malt, spicy rye, lingering sharp bitterness. Not a lot of caraway here, but I do get some black pepper notes. Medium body. Lingering bitter/spicy finish. Interesting, not great.

Keg at Craft Clapham, 16/12/14. Lightly hazed golden with a decent off white covering. Nose is caramel, grain, vanilla, yeast esters, marshmallow, light booze strains. Taste comprises candyfloss, spice, sweet licks, caramel, Belgian yeast tones, dark fruit rinds. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with lightly warming alcohol. Ok but doesn’t carry much depth ABV considered.

Toasted malt nose. Cola brown, headless. Walnut and cardboard flavor. Unftunately the latter is dominant and lingers. Body is medium to ligt, moderte carbonation.

Craft near Tottenham Court Road. Keg. Very hazy gold - amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is somewhat viscous but also crispy. Strong dried fruits with lesser candy fruits. Blackberry jam! Ripe peach. Touch of alcohol spice. Smooth finish. Quite sweet and strong.

12oz bottle. Poured a medium brown, almost cola-like color with a small off-white head. Aroma was some light spices and sweet malt characters, some light ginger notes. Flavor is cocoa, toasted malts, and some thin notes of gingerbread. A bit disappointing.

Tap at the University of Beer in Davis, CA. Pours gold with a white head. Mellow floral/leafy aroma. Flavor is more citrus than anything, but there’s a hint of other fruit, and some decent caramel backbone. Quite drinkable. Arguably a good session ale (this side of the pond).

Bomber from the Whole Foods in Davis, CA. They seem to have left pastrami and sauerkraut off the ingredient list, but maybe next time. Pours clear darkish copper with a creamy beige head. Aroma of rye spice and medium dark fruit. Med body. Flavor is a mixed bag of rye, maybe hot spice bits other than rye, reasonably pruney notes. Making me think this could be a Belgian dubbel variation. Thought there was metal at first, but it passed. Good drink. Way to treat an amber. Hit til it’s down and kill it with flavors. It’s certainly not dry (it’s an amber after all), but there’s enough flavor to solve that problem.
