Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was a semi-burnt copper to almost brown color with a rust colored film of a little white semi-foamy head. Lace was light and sliding.
The aroma started with a huge roastiness to it. Then some chestnuts, earthiness, leather and a little bit of toast round it all out.
The flavor moderately leaned towards the roasty side, some sweetness came in and combined fairly nice. Aftertaste was a dry woody and roasty quality. Finish was abrupt and dry.
The feel was about medium bodied with a decent sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Pretty smooth along my tongue.
Overall, I liked this one as a brown ale, but didn’t really get any of the supposedly \"barrel\" notes in this.

The appearance was a copper color with a thin white wisp of a head. Just slid off into oblivion.
The aroma had some caramel/toffee malts up front. Some woodiness, light earth and herbal qualities came out to try and blend. They somewhat did, but wasn’t too \"together.\"
The flavor was malty sweet with the herbal qualities trying to make a bigger part in this section. Still, they maintained a decent background for the most part. Aftertaste was somewhat malty along with the finish.
The feel was between light and medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Good carbonation and the ABV felt as directed by the brewer.
Overall, seemed on par for what the brewer intended. I don’t see many faults with this one. I could go at this one again preferably with some food.

Poured into a tulip, the appearance was a fairly clear golden sort of color with a small light eggshell white sort of foamy head. Moderate lace.
The aroma had some lemon to citrus smooth sweet pulpiness, lemongrass, light pine, some Belgian yeasty/breadiness and a touch of floral qualities at the end.
The flavor had a nice blend of sweet to bitter. Performed a nice blend in the aftertaste that followed into the finish.
The palate was about medium bodied, maybe a touch under with a good sessionability about it. Nothing distracting as it came across somewhat smooth. Good carbonation and the ABV felt fine.
Overall, yes, I get it, one of those white IPA’s that seem somewhat elusive every now and again. I didn’t mind this one, perhaps again if handed a bottle.

The appearance was a semi-clear golden yellow color with a decent paced carbonation rising to hit a fairly easy going little white head. Coughed up some shoe string lace.
The aroma had some grassy to citrusy sweet hop quality punching a little bit of zestiness.
The flavor was somewhat zesty yet sweet with that spicy contour about it. Not much of an aftertaste but had a nice little kick of the hops in the finish.
The palate seemed to have a medium body with a decent sessionability about it. Moderate carbonation. ABV felt right.
Overall, pretty good AIPA that I could come back to.

Thanks Mike.
Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a rugged dark brown color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that settled at a nice pace. Light lace slid.
The aroma had a huge amount of bourbon soaked malts, smooth and sweet with the woody dryness, vanilla, milk chocolate, light sweet cracker, sly toast, subtle coffee bean, sly maple syrup sweetness and then it coughs up a little bit of smoke at the very end.
The flavor wrapped tightly the prior mentioned aromas to encase the aftertaste with smooth clean sweetness. Finish was malty and woody dry.
The palate was medium bodied generating a good sipping quality about it. A quality to lead many hardened beer geeks into cherishing the extra nuances of the feel - how it trickles along your tongue. The carbonation felt good and the ABV definitely reflected the brewer’s intent.
Overall, did I really just talk like that? Well, I probably didn’t need to sound the way I just did, but if anything - yes, grab a bottle of this and ponder if you will, as I will go back to sitting in my easy chair and continue drinking the crappy Magic Hat that I sometimes exposed myself to. But as for this beer, yes, I will remember you always.

So I remember when oatmeal stouts used to be so common. This was like, in the 20th century. Sam Smiths was a thing, and a large proportion of US micros were emulating the more famous British ales by making ESBs and oatmeal stouts. What a time to be alive. I don’t recall ever seeing an imperialized oatmeal stout, and of all the things to receive that treat, how did it take so long? This is good stuff. Of course, oatmeal ferments out more, leaving a lighter body, and honestly that is just what the imperial stout movement needs. The thicker heavier beers are so 2009. This has all the flavors you want, rich roasted malts, sweeter caramels and chocolates, with anise notes throughout - but a lighter drinkable framework without sacrificing oomph.
