Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a small tan head. Has a roasted Malty caramel aroma. Sweetish malty caramel flavor. Sweetish malty caramel finish with some roasted hints.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a red-brown color with a medium sized tan head. The aroma was sweet date, raising, toffee, cherry, spice and brown sugar. The flavor was tangy, sweet and a bit tart with strong notes of fig, raisin, date and caramel and undertones of molasses and pepper. The finish was long with sour fruits and caramel. Intense flavor. Thick and full body though a bit boozy. Interesting.

Dark brown color with red shades; generous creamy head, persistent. The aroma is very nice, with caramel, hops, vanilla and light star anise. Strong body, with powerful dark caramel flavor, sweet and alcoholic (all this well blended together); some chocolate. Strong bitterness. Solid and very good.

Dark brown to black color; creamy head. Overripe apples aroma. Full bodied, good mix of caramel and chocolate flavor, oxidised, peculiar, quite good. Some warmth from the alcohol. Strong bitterness, but balanced final.

Pours a pretty nice white head over a translucent brownish amber. Has a passable caramel malt. Taste is so far the weakest point. I would say that the beer is under-hopped and under-malted. Some bitterness, but not really enough I don’t think. Palate is just as boring as the remainder of the beer. I mean, it is very drinkable, but the beer sort of lures you in under false premises of a fine appearance and aroma and then hits you with a lackluster taste. But then again, maybe its just that I’m not Jewish.

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is sweetness with some dates? brown sugar? Flavor is very sweet with lots of dough and spice. A heavy swallow is followed by some dark fruit and anise. This brewer does weird things and they work in small samples.

Sampled on draft at Fat Head’s in Pittsburgh PA this beer poured a dark brown-black color with a trace of a khaki head. The aroma was fruity and a little spicy with notes of caramel, molasses and nut with more fruit lingering. The flavor was toasty and bitter with strong candied cherry and light raspberry and notes of coffee, cocoa, vanilla and rum. The finish was long with fruit, coffee and cocoa. Full bodied. Alcohol fairly well hidden. Excellent.

22 ounce bottle from Kybecca in Fredericksburg, VA. Pours a hazy orange-bronze color with a few spots of head that linger on top of the beer. Aroma is faint with notes of toffee, buts and a tannic fruitiness from the pomegranate. Taste is caramel, toffee, coconut, nuts, pomegranate, berries, leafy notes. A very slight hint of oxidation, but not bad. Medium bodied.

Bomber from the Coop in Davis, CA. Pours much like Abyss - very dark brown with a huge dark tan head. Aromas of malt, fennel, dark fruit and treacle. It’s near full bodied with creamy carbonation. It has lots of flavor. Treacle. Raisin/prune. Somewhat burnt malt. It’s more sweet than not. There seems to be no heat at all. Finishes mildly sweet - not cloying - but the bitter is very much second seat.

Bottle from Utobeer, Borough Market, Southwark, London, 14-11-09 consumed 22-11-09 Pours dark brown with a light beige swirl and rim of bubbles. Aroma is heavy with malts, treacle and spice, Loz says that she gets a real meatiness on the nose. Spicey warmth from the alcohol, dark sticky fruits, again I get black treacle, there is no denying the sweetness, but there is also a taste reminiscent from a Stone beer I like. Oily coating on inside of glass. Good beer but at £7.90 a pop another pricey offering from this establishment.. A7 A4 F8 P4 Ov15 3.8
