Bottle from Bine & Vine. Pours dark coppery brown with a slight tan head. Aroma is rather grassy/spicy nobley hoppy sort of thing. Or hay. Which would suggest Phosgene. Urk! Nope, I’m still breathing. Then it suggests a smooth ESB (from over the pond). I really am enjoying the mystery of the aroma. Med + body. So it tastes like OtheP ESB, then a bunch of spicy hot bits swarms in, then creamy toffee displays, and the peppery thing is always on top of the tongue. I dearly enjoy this ale. Finishes like the foregoing, with a drop back to what must be a spicy English barleywine. I do enjoy this ale.

12oz bottle pours a transparent, deep amber with some spitty, white head. Nose has dried fruit, musty bread, malt, mild spice, candy. Flavor is sweet, malty, a little medicinal, candy, raisins, plums. Full bodied, lightly hot, medicinal finish.

Clear deep amber beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry with mild fine carbonation. Smooth dry malst, fair bit of cheap tasting chocolate, tangy. Touch of coconut and dry coffee before the semi dry finish. Slightly bitter chocolate linger. Too much skewed chocolate.

Bomber from Bine & Vine. Pours really dark brown with a slight dark tan head. Aromas of chocolate, coffee and dark fruit. Full bodied. Flavor is dark fruit - cherry, maybe prune, maybe date, with chcolate and lots of dark treacle. It’s a sugar bomb in its way, but it has a lot of flavor to go with it. It even develops a woody not to go with the cherry. Towards the finish I think I can detect heat. Not much, if any. Tasty stuff, but so rich it’s not easy to quaff.

Hazy amber beer, decent pale cream colour head. Palate is softish and very mildly viscous. Fine carbonation. Malts are rich, creamy and rye spicy, unsweet toffee. Ripe orange hops follow along with spicy pine. Smooth finish. Spicy malt linger. Good stuff.

another ipa on tap at my local bar. fresh and pungent, not mouth coating but certainly on ipa style. not as viscous as most yet retains much of that ipa bullshit thing for the whole session. fresh smelling with a little b/o in there. of course, like most ipa, could use a few more manners. yes, comes across fresh on this tap and therefore is a little more enjoyable compared to many run of the mill eye-pahs.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 2/18/2014. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big sour cherry, green apple, lemon, red grape, plum, fig, date, red wine vinegar, leather, vanilla, oak, toffee, toast, molasses, cocoa, light whiskey, musty funk, hay, straw, grass, light pepper, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, fruity/funky yeast, and moderate whiskey barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart cherry, green apple, lemon, red grape, plum, fig, date, red wine vinegar, leather, vanilla, oak, toffee, toast, molasses, cocoa, light whiskey, musty funk, hay, straw, grass, light pepper, and yeast/oak earthiness. Fair amount of fruity/earthy tartness and yeast/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart cherry, green apple, lemon, red grape, plum, fig, date, red wine vinegar, leather, vanilla, oak, toffee, toast, molasses, cocoa, light whiskey, musty funk, light pepper, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, balance, and robustness of dark/bready malt, fruity/funky yeast, and moderate whiskey barrel flavors; with a great sweetness/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth and fairly creamy/acidic mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent barrel aged wild ale style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, fruity/funky yeast, and moderate whiskey barrel flavors; and very smooth and fairly crisp to sip on for the ABV with the moderate acidity. A very enjoyable offering.
