Draft @ Meadhall, Cambridge, MA. Anniversary glass shows a deep brown with ruby highlights when held to the light. Nose is so sweet, it’s kind of offensive. Rich malts, sugar, alcohol and dark fruit. Flavors of caramel, chocolate malts, dark fruits, citrus hops for bitterness. The finish is a more dark fruits, residual sugar, brown sugar, molasses, and a large amount of booze. Full bodied with average amount of carbonation. A sweet, malt bomb with ABV being overwhelming. I bet if you grabbed a bottle and sat on it for 4 years it would be a drinkable brew. Glad I got a short pour of this.

Bottle from the Folsom Whole Foods. Pours dark brown with a slight beige/tan head. Aroma of dark fruits and whiskey. I know there’s no barrel here, but it smells that way to me. Or maybe a bit cola! Near full bodied. Flavor of figs, prune and raisins. Some treacle. Maybe a touch of chocolate in the finish. A nice dark beer with mild suggestions of heat. Not exactly dry, but certainly not all that sweet.

$5 bomber at Binny’s from Dec. 2010. So I finally dredge this out dyrubg this year’s Hanukkah. Why not? I’m allowed. Nice brownish, slightly dense pour under a fizzy light tan head. Bright smell, malty with more of a raisin than grape note. Taste is pretty unique; a little musty, like raisins or a bit of prune. Sweet sherry overtones make up for a slight bit of oxidation by my once again letting this stay in my cellar too long.
