Pours a clear dark reddish copper with an average sized tan head. Sweet malt aroma. Sweet malt at the start with a touch of bitterness and dryness coming in at the finish. Needs just a touch more body and more softness in the malt profile. A little less carbonation would also help and might perhaps reduce a bit of the carbonic acid bite that this seems to have. Not bad, I would certainly drink another, but I think that some very small adjustments would make this outstanding.

Dark copper colored with a thick white head. Plenty of malt throughout, with overtones of caramel candy. A bit on the sweet side, but otherwise very drinkable.

Black as night with a very dark head. Molasses, coffee, roasted malts, some cocoa as well as chocolate in the aroma. Thick, syrupy body. Flavor is rather molasses filled. Also full of chocolate, roasted malts, some coffee, dark fruits and light licorice. Very nice impy.

Sampled on draft at Smokin Joes this beer poured a black color with a small tan head. The aroma was sweetish, tangy, mildly bitter and had a touch of malted milk. The flavor was bitter, dry and roasty with a touch of coffee and nut. The finish was long, dry and roasty. Fairly full bodied. Nice.

12oz bottle at the Brickskeller. Pitch black, with a beige-brown, oily, patchy head. Big-time roasty aroma. Lots of chocolate and coffee. Lots of underlying flavor, but the alcohol tends to dominate, not unlike other big DR beers. Other than that it is pretty right on, with some pleasant sweet maltiness.

355ml bottle. Redish brown with a thin beige head. Aroma of sweet malt, dry fruit, sherry and alcohol. Flavor is sweet malt, dry fruit, some caramel, wood, alcohol and a bitter finish. Quite heavy and sweet body, still somehow balanced on the bitter side. Lovly.

Deep, dark brown with a large beige head. Milk chocolate, light herbal hops, and a medium roasted malt nose. Overly effervescent mouth. Flavor is sweet and roasted. Some cocoa, lactose, roasted malts, some molasses, and a finishing bitterness that comes more from the hops than the roasted malts. A nice stout.

Moderately strong coffe and oak nose. Cola colored with no head. Uncomplicated flavor of charred oak. Bark finish. Flat soda mouthfeel. Pretty straightforward, nothing outstanding.
