Description

Generation.

Bottle from UtoBeer. Dark amber with a slim white head. Smoke and malt aroma and flavour. A bit watery and the smokness is not that domination. Very inferior in comparisson to the Schlenkelrlas. But since I love smoked beer I liked it.

0,5L bottle purchased at Lukas in Kansas City, Missouri. Pour is hazed orange brown and golden. Nice one inch off white head. There is quite a bit of suspended particulates in this beer. Aroma of toasted, roasty maltiness. The smoke is present, but very much as a background to the toasty malt. If you were expecting a bit smoky beer, I would think this would be dissapointing, but I actually like it. Taste is the toasted malt from the nose, with the wood fireplace smokiness apparent much sooner. The smoke starts pretty early, carries the middle, and lingers through the finish. The palate is light-medium, almost entirely still. As mentioned, the finish is smoke, though it is a clean, light smokiness. This was a nice drinkable lager, with nice smoke accents. Reminded me of the Aecht Helles quite a bit, though I prefer the Aecht.

Bottle at home ... light smokey nose ... quite fruity ... little juicy ... light lager hop ... some wood ... touch smoked fishy decent and inoffensive. smokeyness is light enough to be intersting.

Bottle: Poured a clean light brown color ale with a one-inch foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of smoke is not as present as I would have expected. Taste is a mix between a light caramel malt bills with some medium smoke. Average body with some good carbonation. Easily quaffable but not as much character as I would have expected.

50cl on tap in Bamberg. This one is a lighter version of the Aecht Rauchbier. A good way to try the Raucbier style for those not familiar with the latter. Pours amberish color, white head. Aroma is malty, lightly smokey. Taste is also filled with smokey malt, the smokey becomes more apparent in the after taste. Taste remains more grainy than its other Bamberg counterpart.

(6/31/08) Draught at the brewpub in Bamberg. Cloudy orange with an off-white head. Aroma has some banana and spiciness and maybe some very faint smokiness. Wheaty fruity flavor with banana, light citrus and some spiciness. Medium-bodied with a typical crisp Weizen mouthfeel. Not really smoky.

(6/31/08) Draught at the brewpub in Bamberg. Cloudy appearance (it actually looks like there are clouds there!) with a big white head. Aroma of some malt and nice fresh hoppiness. A rather dry hoppy flavor with some grass and some citrus notes. Medium-bodied. Very nice.

Bottle at Kent BF 08. Amber clear, thin white head. Rauch aroma. Lovely Bamberg bacon. Smokey. Baken bean aroma according to Brian and Martin. Decent lager. Bit empty after some very good ales. But good enough.
