Description
Arthur Van den Bossche founded the brewery in 1897. After his death in 1925, Elenora Callebaut, Arthur's wife and daughter of the Callebaut brewers and chocolatiers family, continued the brewery. In 1935 Willy and Mark Van den Bossche, the 2nd generation, take the helm and further expand the brewery. Ignace son of Mark Van den Bossche, 3rd generation, becomes active in the brewery in 1976. In 2015 Bruno Van den Bossche takes over the brewery from his father. The 4th generation is now taking the lead.

Bottled. Dark brown opaque colour with broiwn big head. Aroma is toffee, caramellish malts with slight roasted hints. Some yeast also, which is a bit disturbing. Flavour is yeasty, roasted malts, caramel and candy sugary. The finish has a big sugary peak. Aftertaste is maily toffee and roasted caramel malts. Pleasant brew, though the yeast is a bit interfering in this one.

Best before 250606. Pours bright amber into a tulip. Large, off-white conglomerate head. Hay and caramel notes. Upfront smooth, fizzy caramel which ends abruptly into a dry, lasting fruity biscuit finish.

[Bottled] Cloudy dark red. Balsamic cherry aroma. Medium sweet with soft mouthfeel. The fresh cherry flavour dominates this beer. The light body and restrained sweetness makes it nicely drinkable. A good one flavour beer, but I’d like to see it drier.

Pour is a orange with a large with head. Not much to the aroma. pretty bland scent for a Belgain. Flavor is a whole lot better. Very sweet and citrus like with notes of yeast and barnyard. Still this is pretty average for a trippel. It was only $2 a bottle

[An aged sampled I believe I’ve had it for two years - and now it is about to expire] A deep red beer with some chunks of yeast, underneath a lazing dark brown head. The aroma is lovely with notes of candy sugar, alcohol, chocolate, raisins, wood, and yeast - very complex. The flavor is sweet and has strong notes of chocolate, combined with notes of prunes - in a lovely combination, but also notes of alcohol - a bit like an old Sherry, as well as wood and hints of tobacco. Mysteriously the body feels a bit thin, but the aftertaste lingers for a long time.
