Description
Arthur Van den Bossche founded the brewery in 1897. After his death in 1925, Elenora Callebaut, Arthur's wife and daughter of the Callebaut brewers and chocolatiers family, continued the brewery. In 1935 Willy and Mark Van den Bossche, the 2nd generation, take the helm and further expand the brewery. Ignace son of Mark Van den Bossche, 3rd generation, becomes active in the brewery in 1976. In 2015 Bruno Van den Bossche takes over the brewery from his father. The 4th generation is now taking the lead.

A hazy amber beer with a fine orange head. The aroma is lovely hoppy with notes of spices and peach as well as hints of alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of oranges, spices, and peach on a dry background, but the body is thin.

Nearly stoutlike blackness; brown head, very creamy. Very heavy dark malt, grassy, autumn leaves. Perfumed, but in a nice way. Very sweet, with again leafy notes, lots of liquorice and a perfumed side flavour, maybe some subtle spice. Bit oily, medium bodied, alcohol comes out after some time. Not bad as sweet beers go, but people might find this sickly sweet, I reckon. It seems to beg for a bag of mulled wine spices, and a hot poker from the fire. Perfect to "style", then.

Fairly aged (75cl) bottle Very clear pale-orange beer; small, fast gone, disparate head. Whiff of mouldiness, followed by a very typical spicey nose - cannot name it. Bit of sherry. Citrus taste, titillating, with a mild but real acidity, and again sherry; apricot, crème de noix without the sweetness. Acidity is quite lemon-like, or medlars. Light to medium bodied, certain slickness, carbonations very marked. Nice beer, despite its age, it’s actually better than young, having lost an excessive sweetness.

Dark brown with nice creamy coffee head. Aroma is malty and sweet raisins. Meidum-bodied, christmas pudding taste. Flavor has raisins and grapefruit. Quite light for such a high ABV. Late grassy hoppyness is nice.

A hazy orange beer with sediment floating around when everything is poured. It has a huge off-white lasting head. The aroma is sweet and contains notes of peach, yeast, and citrus. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of yeast and coriander, but also notes of peach, oranges, and hops - especially bitter hops, that together with the coriander gives it a dry but still smooth end. The body is a little watery - weird for an 8% ABV beer.

Slightly hazy amber-orange; slim white head. Faint spicey nose, dried apricots or nuts. Again dried nuts taste (cashew...) dried thymian, coriander, whiff of orange rind. Bit meaty taste as well. Quite light bodied for a triple. I cannot quite believe it’s pure full attenuation. All tastes & flavours are very faint. If this beer misses anything sorely, it’s punch.

Dark, clear, red-brown beer; little crème rim. Nutty, buttery, brown candi sugar nose. Very sweet taste, cola-drink. Slight bitterish, roasted-malt palate. There is a flowery, faint-grapey flavour floating around. Light mouthfeel, watery texture. Not very spirit-lifting, really. I'm sure Ignace can do better than this. But what do people want?

A deep red beer with a beutiful beige head. The aroma is sweet and lightly fruity. The flavor is also sweet - actually very sweet which makes it too much halfway thru. The flavor contains notes of fruit and caramel.
