Never had an Aussie Wheat beer before. Brown 330ml bottle from Booth’s Supermarket chain, best before June 2011, drank and reviewed June 2010. Poured, sediment and all into Hoegaarden Grand Cru glass. The beer was a clear blonde until I allowed the sediment to gush out into the glass, it then turned into the cloudy murky off orange colour I was half expecting. Next to no head, just a wisp or two and a thin collar. The smell was wheaty and orangey, the taste a dry orange flavour, and flat almost, poor condition in my eyes anyway. Lacked sparkle and life in general to be honest, not impressed at all. It has travelled a long way to be slated, but this didn’t do the business at all for me.

From a 330ml bottle on 17/2/2012. Pours a light amber with a smallish head. Has a malty, bready aroma with some basement like notes. The flavour is very malty, withn lots of sweet caramel and a little spice. This is offset by a nice medium hop bitterness. While it won’t necessarily blow your hair back, it’s a nicely put together vienna.

Pours copper with ruby tints and a small densely packed head.Nose shows spicy, toasty malt, caramel and nutty notes. Very enticing.Similar flavours, quite malty, but with the spicy, toasty rye really standing out amongst the sweet caramel and possible melanoidin malt.Nice creamy carbonation suits the beer well.

From a 330ml bottle on 13/11/2011. Pours a deep golden with a medium head which disappears quickly. Has a quite a distinct fruit aroma with peach, apricot and mandarin evident. The flavour is primarily citrus fruit with lots of lemon and more mandarin, which contribute a sharp bitterness at the back. An unusual and interesting beer which doesn’t come together for me, but worth a go if you’re looking for something a bit different.

Bottle. Darkish amber with a thin beige head that vanishes quickly. Aroma of toffee, earth, peppery spices. Lots of toffee in the taste, but it’s not all that sweet. Earthy bread and spices, a touch of vinegar. Quite rich but the spicy dry finish keeps it refreshing.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Pours a clear orangey brown with a creamy and lacing beige head. Sweet chocolatey nose with some honey. Medium body, hard roast, odd bonbonish edge - if that’s the barrel aging it didn’t really come out all that pleasant. Bitter roast finish. 080911
