Hazy orange amber; huge, yellowish head, irregular bubbles. Fruity & leafy onset of the nose. Fruit identifies itself as sweet or preserved orange. Strawberry syrup, dried figs. Taste is yeasty, nearly meaty, and yeast-bitter. Slightly liqueurish, style Mandarine Napoléon. Hints of walnut and walnut peels. Very creamy, velvety mouthfeel. Fatty even. Barley Wine is the brewery's own designation. I agree with fly & Cesar that Strong Belgian would suit it better - or since we embraced it after all, "Abt/Quadrupel". I do think of BW as more oily, less yeasty, less saturated and even more hops.

Hazy, very pale orange, full of fluffy bits; very dense, ultra-small bubbled creamy head. Very liqueurish nose, alcohol prominent; dry & spicey aroma’s: corander, white candi sugar, even a bit honey - but not really sweet. Taste is yeasty and sweet, again, liqueurish in character. Toast-like malts, giving a sticky suggestion which isn’t there in the mouthfeel. Very warming alcoholburn, OTOH. Full bodied, yeast gives overly creamy mouthfeel. Aftertaste reverts to some more spicey, peppery notes. I’m not that impressed even if it isn’t bad. I would have liked it more if the nose would have carried on in the taste. It’s as if one tried to enjoy a bit of different styles at once, but instead of breaking out of style, it ended in "neither fish nor meat".

Huge cream-coloured, dense head; hazy orange beer, lively carbonation. Fresh-herbal & spicey nose. Pine-like hops, aroma like a herbal, yes, alcoholic tonicum. Taste both very spicey and hoppy, but sweet underbuild by roasted hops, toast-like. Whiff of honey flavour. Each new sop gives a lemony restart. Medium bodied. Alcohol's there, but subdued. Misses a longer aftertaste. Honesty compells me to concede I like this beer better and better. I think it's still being developped. This 75cl sample virtually even misses the Van Steenberge thumbprint, bravo!

PINT-bokbier 2003: Very clear redbrown color, short head. Aroma is fruity and malty, caramel. Sweet malty taste, caramelly again. Again a nice brew by De Leijerth.

Very dark brown, red-brown shine, hazy. Thick yellow-brown head, slowly collapsing. Nose with dark malts, chocolate and markedly blackcurrant, whiff of chlorine. Bitter-sweet taste, licorice, a bit of caramel and other dark/roasted malts. Again blackcurrant retronasal. Medium to full bodied, no new aftertaste. Neither the best, even less the worst. A good middle-of-the-roader. De Leyerth is NOT a brewery, but a brewery-hirer. All beers are manufactured at the Van Steenberge plant. I would like their efforts even more without the Tolkien-version-kindergarten commercials around them.

Bottled. Ruby coloured with lively rich head. Lightly acidic fruity nose. Light bodied with notes of honey and caramel. Clean mouthfeel. Pleasant.

Clear dark brown color, short lasting head. Weak aroma, malts. Easy drinkable. Bit roasted malts flavor, bit licorice, roasted bacon, salami. German-like beer. Quite dry palate, but also tasteful.

Label says barley wine indeed, but it also says 11,5 % ABV. The beer itself reminded me of the La Trappe Quadrupel, which i admire. Golden amber color, with a medium creamy lasting head. Aroma is spicy, amber malty, bit bubble gum. Taste of spicy amber malts, alcohol can definitely be noticed, therefore don't drink it as a starter. Palate is belly-warming. Sirupy texture, sharp carbonating.

A real 'pint', high foam. Little spicy aroma. Tastes like vegetables. Also sweet. Bitter-sweet palate.

From tap this beer is definitely better than bottled. It's more refreshing and the spicy taste is stronger from tap. Cloudy orange beige color, wheat like appearance. Thick body. Spicy aroma, grains. Spicy taste, amber-like. Easy drinkable.
