draught at the Royal Glen Hotel, Sidmouth (08/2010). LHuge creamy head. Malty, slightly bitter, slightly fruity. Smooth, perhaps too smooth and almost stale.

Canned 500ml. -had this beer few times in last couple of years but only now realised that I’ve rated wrong beer (Carling Black Label Canadian Version). Pale golden coloured, medium sized white head that went away slowly, dry cornflakes and grassy nose. Weak malty, slight grassy and faint fruity with metalic bite in the finish.

Originally rated February 2005. Caffrey’s Premium Draught poured an amber colour with a very nice cascade-effect. The slightly off-white head was creamy and had long and thick retention. The nose is very faint, not much going on except grain malt. Taste is very, very smooth with a light bitter aftertaste. Also some sweet malt. I remember this beer tasting a bit more when bought at a bar on Draught. Still a great brew.

Can. A hazy golden beer with proteins floating around under a thin lazing beige head. The aorma has notes of malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt leading to a lightly bitter finish.

Rerate (Brewed in Croatia, 9.8°)So, MolsonCoors purchased Starbev, and along with it, Zagrebačka Pivovara... It was a matter of time before some halfwit would decide that Carling was just the thing the Croatian market needed. Because who wouldn’t want to buy a lager whose name means nothing to us, which is weaker than the rest, crap by default and even MORE expensive than the others because it’s a "foreign brand". Who wouldn’t indeed. Only a handful of morons, akin to whoever made the decision I guess. And us raters, to try it / rerate it. This indeed poured a pale golden body, like last time, but here the label states that this is actually colored with caramel. Wow! Such brewing skills! The head is appropriately crap, medium sized, bubbly and falls apart immediately. Streams of bubbles cling to the glass - why of course it would be fizzy, way overcarbonated. The nose is yolk-like, slightly bready, not as dusty, not as dry, and marginally more appealing than the UK one. Salty, oily taste, sleazy mouthfeel, eggs which turn to paper. Watery. Vague... something, corn-derived fruitiness. The vague smoothness is the only thing that kinda saves it. Some bitterish hoppy notes in the finish, not too attractive. WHY? WHY DID YOU RELEASE THIS? WHY? +1 aroma, -2 overall, turns into 1.5. Old review (Brewed in UK)0.5l can brought from England by a friend (thanks Lidija!) Poured a pale golden body with a small but very persistant thick white head. Eggy, dusty and dry strong nose, vague grassy notes. Empty taste, very very light grain, vague lemon and dust in the background, not unpleasant and as such typical crap made only for people to get wasted on. As expected. 3/2/3/2/6

Can, 3.6%. Weak fruity aroma. Clear dark copper colour. Stable white head, very creamy. The flavour is a little fruity and quite bitter, slightly rough bitterness. Low carbonation, and too low in my opinion.

Cask (handpump) @ NWAF 10, National Winter Ales Festival, The Venue, Sheridan Suite, Manchester, England.Clear medium yellow orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, hay, fruity, moderate to light heavy hoppy, dry hop flowers. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20100120]

Pale orange-brown colour. A disc of dense white foam sits atop the beer but seems like a totally separate component. It’s smooth, creamy and refreshing with a mild bitterness. Not a patch on the 90’s version which was 4.8% and much richer and intensly flavoured.

44 cL can. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is roasted and slight breadish malty. Roasted and breadish malty. Rather dry and flat malty. Vague bitterness into the finish.
