Description
Since George and Susannah Bateman opened our independent family brewery in 1874, we’ve been using the best possible ingredients and craft brewing methods to make beers that people love.
Four generations later, and we’re still doing things our own way – and have quite a few more beers to our name.

Cask at Richard John Blackler, Liverpool. Pours a golden amber wih a small white head and good lacing. Not much of a aroma – just some oranges faintly. In the mouth it is bitter and hoppy with grains and corn, plus oranges and some grapefruit lending a fruity air. Finish however, is the sticky bitter lemon / citrus which clings to the tongue and makes me want to throw up ! Too citrussy for my liking.

[Cask at the Claude du Vall (JDW), Camberley.] A hazy pale amber pour with a scummy looking cream head; orangey aroma; thick and syrupy in the mouth with a muddled fruity taste; and a chewy bitter marmalade finish.

500ml bottle from Co-Op, cracked and poured into a pint sleeve at our holiday lodge in Louth after a 4-hour drive. Pours a dark brown, pale mocha cream head. Aroma is nicely chocolatey. Quite a pleasant chocolatey character to taste, very mild coffee, soft grain. Not a bad beer at all, medium to light bodied, drinks very well with just enough flavours shining through.

500ml bottle. Poured a clear dark amber colour with a short-lived fizzy white head and lots of bubbles. The aroma is malt, and woody hops. The flavour is moderate to light bitter and sweet, with a malt, light sweet caramel, woody hop bitter palate. Medium amber to light bodied with lively carbonation. A fizzy ESB? No thanks.
