Description
In August 1982, our late founder Tony Allen opened Oak Brewery on an industrial estate in Ellesmere Port. After much success, he moved nine years later to a location more central to his trading areas. Phoenix Brewery, Heywood!
Phoenix Brewery was registered in 1874, brewing directly from the Brewery tower and owning over 100 pubs in the local area. Phoenix’s history is still proudly displayed on our seven-story tower.
Building upon our strong foundations, we continue to brew Tony’s longstanding classic beers, whilst introducing innovative new brews. The team are looking forward to welcoming you to our Brewery site – soon to be open to the public for the first time in our history!
In 1996 it took the decision to trade as the name of the brewery Phoenix Brewery.

Cask. Clear amber golden with hardly any head. Distincly buttery nose with some caramel also. Medium body, close to flat, distinct caramel accents, a little citrus and a fairly hoppy finish. 210110

Cask, Ship and Mitre, Liverpool. Very light gold colour with a minimal white head. Vague citrus aroma with trace hop. Clean taste, with pallid malt and weak hoppage. Bit on the watery side. Lightly bitter finish. Ok, but bordering on the tedious.

Cask, gravity at Merton Summer Beer Festival, 17-07-10 A clean gold colour with a white head, looks really good. Simple but pleasant clean, citrussy aroma, Fruity with loads of citrus in the mouth and a nice bitterness, some juicy orange, touch dry at the end. I think that if I’d have had time to sit and drink this and relax its rating may have been better and probably closer to Glen’s but I kept taking snatches of this in between serving and so it was treated a little unfairly. Good beer all the same. A7 A4 T8 P3 Ov15 3.7

16th April 2010. Very dark brown beer but it is clear. Dry palate, very dry. Bitterish dark malt and underlying hop that also imparts bitterness. There is a pleasant tang in the middle. Overall this beer is way too dry and too one dimensional in it’s bitterness.
